Entry number 2: Poppy, then pullet-aged, Sapphire Gem.
Late afternoon, laid an egg on the deck. I thought that she was passing a lump of crap with how puffed she was, but then she just dropped an egg onto the boards. Deflated, stood for a moment, then looked behind her and immediately started poking at the cracked egg, which was standing upright due to the cracking.

One of my hens was rescued from the local post office where she had taken up residence in the parking lot. Before we got her she had laid an egg in the mail that was waiting in the delivery bay. The postmaster found it and was greatly surprised.

My partner wants to know where the postmaster delivered the egg.

ENTRY:

A few years ago we got 4 new pullets. After being introduced to the flock, which had been laying regularly for older hens, we started getting one or two eggs a day. Some days none!

One day we decided to clean out the over grown veggie garden (the hens had access to this area) we found 2 spots where the flock had been laying. ! spot had at least 2 dozen eggs and the other over 30!! The hens were locked in the coop/roosting area (8 feet X 19 feet) to get them to lay in the 6 nesting boxes. It took about a week.

My chicken was sitting on the swing and apparently it’s so comfy she felt the need to lay an egg on it. Its built where the wood has gaps. I went out there and found a cracked egg on the ground

One morning I found an egg that had been laid while someone was on the roost. It remained in tact as in was in a pile of chicken Poo, top and bottom.

My brother had a hen that decided since other birds nest in trees, she would too...small caveat is that the fork of this live oak is only about 3 or 4 feet above ground.

This one is my fault. I didn't expect our bantams to start laying as early as one did, so I didn't have nest boxes set up for them yet. So she improvised...

Same. Our silkie bantam laid WAY earlier. She now lays in the rocks, but is working toawrds her nesting boxes!
