English Shepherd as Poultry Guardian

Pup Pup just found two American dominque hens making distressed contact calls near front yard. They are hens that recently moved from yard to barn.

Owner has visitor(s) over that are talking loudly and threatenly. They are doing something with at least one shovel. Statement very clearly that if someone hurts their kid, then someone’s whole family will be killed. They were not talking to us directly. I had my son and dogs quietly walk back from fence to the house. This is a rough bunch.

This getting less fun. Deputy still not here. Dispatch instructed me to stay well away from neighbors and in house. Woman wailing over loss of dog is riling other members of party that now appear based on sounds to be multiple adults. Wind blowing so I can hear very well. They contesting my chickens and saying my dogs are going onto their property. There maybe contention over property boundary. My dogs staying over very well and Honey is only one out most of time. Conflict is no longer based on facts / reality; it is entirely emotion driven.

I hate that you're dealing with this, but I'm so impressed by how level headed you seem to be through the entire ordeal. Reasoned, compassionate, but firm and fully willing and able to follow through on what needs to be done.

If all neighbors communicated so well and took responsibility for themselves and what's theirs, the world surely would be a much better place.

Hope things have a peaceful and satisfactory resolution tonight.

After waiting forever on county law enforce, somebody called from the county head quarters. Woman I assume to be owner called and had reported me. She indicated her dogs were coming over, but was very upset. She suggested to the officer that she could kill one of my dogs in retribution, but she does not have the heart. Officer indicated she had no recourse other than civil suit for value of the dog. Officer asked me number of chickens presumably for their value. Discussion officer got was very different from that I overheard with male voices, very different.

I'm not all that calm. A little shaky to be sure. I have dealt with neighbors over dog issues before so got a little experience tempering my reactions. Still not something to take lightly.

The mess does not build on what the dogs are used for. It simply records the mess they have no control over.
