English Shepherd as Poultry Guardian

We brought pups back into yard for a while today. Kids had a blast being able to run and roll with pups.

It was mortally wounded and was finished off shortly after the picture. She had crushed the spine and rib cage.
Once my dogs have caught and killed a few opossums, they start to loose interest in finishing job. With those dogs, opossums that play dead get little more than a rough sniffing. Then I have to collect those opossums myself by trapping or catching by hand. if opossums were not so abundant here, I think there would be no such problem.

Mindy is determined to get any possum anywhere near, she absolutely seems to hate them, playing dead doesnt get them a pass from her. Dillon isnt as concerned, if it is upright he goes after it when it hisses or growls, usually he worries varmints from the front to distract them and Mindy then comes in from behind and grabs them by neck or upper back area. She rarely let's him get a chance to get a kill bite in on them.
If that possum was just ambling around or playing dead he would probably give it a pass. He does get serious though when a confrontation starts.
