errrrr what to do

so today when i got home there is the neighbors german shepard dog in my yard hes not nice and has barked directly in my face a couple times i immediatly ran him off throwing gravel at him i wen t in side for about ten minutes and came back out he was back about 5 feet from the run eyeballin my easter eegers he got the initial reaction of the closest thing i could find to throw (flower pot) was frustrated to the point i wanted to kill him nest time he was down here but they are one of my fathers old friends and didnt want to cause relationship problems with them nor do i want ongoing problems with my neighbors but about 45 minutes ago i walked outside to the sound of scratching across my brooder top that is in my garage with the lights on so i ran in there as fast as i could thinkin he might already be munching on some of my 2 week old barred rocks he turned around and barked so i backed up a couple steps cause he is a big dog and i just dont feel like trying to fight a german shepard he would probably win anyhow so when i back up he runs out of the garage fast i go in the house and get my hunting light march up to there house and pounded on the door witch they didnt decide to open or come to so i left a note on there door telling them that i ran there dog of three times and that it was trying to get to my chickens dont know what to do they already know that i dont want it at my house because i have 2 14 month old daughters that love to be outside and he is not a reall friendly dog im at my wits end and dont know what to do i did read a post once about spray painting a big red bullseye on the dog maybe they would get the point

If they are your father's friends, maybe he could talk to them? If he doesn't want to, or he does and the problem continues, file reports about the trespassing. They have been warned, haven't they?

You need to call and report this to the police or animal control. If this animal is acting aggressively, you are not the only one at risk. Report it to authorities and let them do what they are paid to do.

You should handle this problem with them yourself and not involve your dad if possible.

Perfect reasons to SSS (shoot - shovel - shutup). Not only are the neighbors "friends" of your father, but they don't mind putting you, your children or your livestock in danger. Talking to them about it anymore is a waste of time and energy.

At this point, I wouldn't talk to them about it again. Nor would I leave any notes. Aggressive dogs are just accidents (bad ones) waiting to happen.

Just shoot them, bury them and don't say a word about it. If they ask if you've seen him, just say you didn't see him, or say you saw him pass through eariler but haven't seen him since. That's my advice to you... It'll save you a whole lot of trouble. And no one will cry more than you when he mauls your children.

i definetly dont have a problem killing him beleive me i just dont want to have to deal with the drama thats gonna come from it and i have told them to keep it at there house just they live directly across the road and the wife is at home all day i was thinking more like antifreeze unless you gotta better idea i heard fly bait will kill a dog i wouldnt say anything if i did kill it or i might it makes me mad that some people value a dog more than people and would run the risk of somone getting hurt because the love there toodles or bowser or whatever ive owned hunting dogs for as long as ive been old enough and never ever ever had a problem putting an aggresive dog down people should be more responsible and not make it my responsibility to kill there pooch witch they should do or put it under lock and key

Well antifreeze and other poisons are a terrible way to die but I see where your dilema is. Another problem is that if you put out antifreeze, your target may not be the one who gets to it. If you have dogs yourself, you better take care they are no where near that antifreeze. Also other animals can die from it. Poisons also trickle down to animals who eat poisoned animals. But again, I see where you're coming from.

It's one thing to have dogs attacking your chickens, but this dog is also agressive with you and is a danger to your children. You shouldn't have to worry about your children on your own property because your neighbors have an aggressive dog they don't care anything about.

Animal control, if they service your area (they don't service mine), will remove the animal, but your neighbors can recover it, and that doesn't solve your problem because it will be out and about again threatening you and your family.

As you well know, antifreeze will solve your problems, and as long as it's on your property, there's nothing anyone can do about it. When dogs roam, they get into things, so there would be no reason to suspect that you purposely put it out for their dog.

If you think that's your only option, what other choices do you have? All other things I would suggest wouldn't work: You've already talked to them and they don't care, shooting it will invite drama with the ever-watchful-neighbors, and it's too dangerous and too big to trap. You can give the dog one more chance if you like, by trying Animal Control? but I personally don't think it will work. If they don't care now, they won't care later. You'd have to build a fortress of fencing to keep that dog out, and frankly, you shouldn't have to spend a fortune on fencing to keep your neighbor's dog off your property. Even my neighbors dogs get through five foot high wooden fences and hotwire. So it's really up to you to do what you have to do to keep yourself and your family safe.

im not sure but i dont think that if i put poisin out on my property and there dog gotta bite of it that i would get into any trouble. that would be like if you stole my car and it had bad brakes you wrecked and died it would be my fault

Please just call animal control or the police. Poisoning their dog is going to cause a heck of a lot more trouble than reporting them, I promise you this.

Since this is the first time you are posting about this dog, it seems to be an isolated incidient. Why torture the pet of your family's friends because of a one day incident? Just call animal control and have them come get the animal and sternly warn the owners.
