Ever Heard of this complaint?

About once a month I send 100 eggs to work with my husband. You wouldn't believe the dumb things people say to him about the eggs. They are looked at as a huge oddity by most of the people. Those who know what are being offered hurry to grab 6 or a 12 and squirrel them away to take home.

I also send a box of 100 to my MIL. She spreads them around her immediate neighbors. Now those people in Metro DC appreciate real farm fresh eggs. They get so excited when the eggs box comes. LOL

Being new to this site....(just joining yesterday) I didn't want to wear out my welcome by over posting, but when I read this one I had to chime in...
Only because I have had a simalar reaction to farm eggs from who else BUT MY HUSBAND......
For years we would get farm eggs from my mom and on occassion I would end up buying store eggs if she was running low. Well anyway He would refuse to eat the eggs from my mom. And then when we got our own chickens he wouldn't eat them either...ONLY STORE EGGS FOR HIM!!!! His reasoning was.....The farm eggs (especially brown eggs would remind him where the eggs come from). But for some reason WHITE STORE EGGS in his mind must not come from the same place. He would also complain about the yolks being so much brighter yellow or orange than store eggs. It took me almost 10 years to convince him they were better than store eggs. When I cook I always used farm eggs, he would eat them, but the minute he found out there were farm eggs involved he instantly stopped eatting what ever it was. BIG BABY HE IS...lol

Well now that we have had our own chickens for some time and he actually went to the store with me he seen the price of eggs, let alone actually took the time to compare egg for egg on looks and then taste he has finally come around to eat farm eggs. He actually asks for them now. At easter the girls were able to color 12 dozen farm eggs, well guess who has eatten most of those eggs...Not the girls.....My husband!!!!!

It only took 10+ years to get him to come around, but he is finally coming around to it....

When we butchered 2 of our farm pigs last year, he didn't like the meat at first, BECAUSE IT DIDN'T TASTE THE SAME AS STORE MEAT!!!!! It took me countless pork chops, pork steak, etc. etc. to get him to realize that our meat wasn't pumped with extras, they were about as natural as could get. Everyone else loved the meat, but he took a little convincing before he realized how good it was.

He is a work in progress, but I think I am winning out and he is starting to come around.
(Funny thing is he will only eat the beef we get from my grandpa's cows-just about as natural and orgainic as it can get...He loves that over store beef, so I don't know why everything else is such a hassel).

Well thanks for reading my long post...Sorry to take so much time/space up on this one....(I guess if 1 person laughs about it, it was worth it...lol

Welcome to BYC, Run-A-Muck!

I've never had anyone complain about the yolk color-my customers have all had real farm fresh eggs before but, I have had a complaint about the shells being to tough. My Mom said that I was to quit feeding so much of whatever it is that makes the shells so hard to crack open. I just laughed! She grewup on a dairy farm and they had chickens but, I bet they weren't taken care of so well.

people get an idea and stick to it- I had a lady buy hatching eggs in Cali who swore I had sent her another breed because white silkies only laid tan eggs and mine were white
she tossed the eggs would not even try to set them --

and how many times have you been asked do they lay eggs ,can ya eat them ?

I've given away eggs to people, assuring them that they are clean and fresh (laid within the previous two days, etc.), and have never gotten a response other than "oh they were yummy". No details on how they looked, how they were cooked or anything.

Other people just have never acknowledged that I've given them eggs at all. Makes me wonder if they really ate them or just let them sit until they were thrown out...

for some reason WHITE STORE EGGS in his mind must not come from the same place

well, with all thier clean whitenss bleached into them, they do seem quite sterile don't they? yuck!

My hubby was cooking breakfast one day, when we had first gotten our girls-- he left all the brown eggs, and used store eggs for the breakfast. I asked him why? his answer "they were too pretty to crack" LOL I made breakfast the next day, and he was looking in the pan, and said "WOW, they look so healthy!"

Ate Easter lunch with some friends and had a "white" cake made with some of my eggs. The eggs turned the cake golden

I made golden pancakes Sat morning for breakfast-- haven't gotten an egg all week from the ladies though, so I guess tomorrow we'll have white pancakes:(

I took eggs when I went for knee therapy. Some of the therapists were used to "homegrown" eggs and were so glad to get them. One wasn't familiar with them but is a health nut, so he took a dozen. The next time I went back he looked me up and said "I got a question about those eggs." Scared me to death! I just knew if there was a bad one in the bunch he would get it. He is real serious and solemn. He said "I really like the eggs, but how in the world do you peel them?" I hadn't told him about the "let them age" thing. Thank goodness he liked them. I would hate to have been the one to scar him for life.
