So it turns out, that my flock are apparently all horrible fashion snobs.
Went out this afternoon, wearing my new pair of board shorts, that are white with a blue pattern, to let everyone out to range. They all went bananas, like I was a huge fox or something. Thought about it and realized I had the same thing happen, when I wore my bottle green T-shirt a few days before.
Anyone have their chooks freak out over what you are wearing? Is it a color thing? Or are they just so used to my normal home rags that they didn't recognize me wearing something new? I know that while they are fine with me, strangers showing up make them run and hide in a panic.

I try to wear the same outdoor gear when I’m in the chicken run, because I often end up with a hen in my lap or on my back, and don’t want to ruin my good clothes.

I do occasionally go to see the girls right away after having been gone from the property for a while, and when I visit them with certain clothes on it’s chaos.

Really it’s just two of my younger hens who flip out, but they get everyone upset by jumping and flying away from me. One of the two young ones is afraid of everything new — if my hair is in a braid rather than a bun, if I’m wearing jeans, if I have gloves on, etc.. The other one is terrified specifically when I wear my maroon hoodie, and her fear results in charging at me and jump kicking. She also does this to any and all beverage cups. They are clearly not to be trusted.

I think of it being sort of like when you’re a kid and you can’t recognize your dad after he shaves off his mustache. You feel that you should be safe, but you still find it deeply unsettling. Their reactions are just a little stronger than ours.

My daughter had a pair of brown and pink plaid pants and my husband had a blue plaid shirt that scared our flock. All other plaid clothes are fine:idunno
The most terrifying outfit was the one I wore to work and walked by the run once. A khaki skirt, off white sweater and a long rust colored cardigan. They screamed and flew into the wire trying to get away. When I looked in the mirror later, I realized that I must have looked like a giant red tailed hawk! Oops...:oops: I didn't make that mistake again🤣

If you went out to feed your chickens and found they had changed their plumage to fluorescent lime green, I think you would have a similar reaction.:p
