So in theory (I have never used an incubator) if a row was not totally full a piece of foam could be used to fill the gap?
Or you can place them horizontally

That is a great idea actually! I will try that sometime!

You most definitely could. In fact, several incubators have eggs horizontally the whole time.

I would rather not because I often purchase shipped eggs and they'll occasionally have misplaced air cells. I believe keeping them right side up (big end) helps those a little bit more than being on their sides. I have hatched a few eggs with air cells on their sides, and only about half of those made it.

I had never seen any Brinsea 56 with larger racks before yours. This is pretty cool! Ducks would work better in those too I bet. I put duck eggs in my other one once and they were actually pinched into the rack.
I just tried Muscovy eggs in the chicken egg rack.
