IMO, 17 pounds is NOT too much. I'm moving 50 pound sacks of feed frequently and other similar things all the time - I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I like babycenter.com best, but there are lots of decent ones out there. Good luck

26 weeks is VERY serious - 36 weeks is much more reasonable... I can't believe a doctor would want a baby born with that many potential health risks rather than letting him cook a little longer. How was he measuring at her ultrasound (I'm assuming she had one?) Is he the right size for gestational age? Could she get a second opinion?

Yes he is normal size. I am assuming the placental seperation is serious. She is on bed rest. This doc is a high risk pregnancy specialist with the US Air Force.

I'm glad he's normal size and it sounds like she's going to an excellent doctor. I would still try to get a second opinion if he really wants to induce her at 26 weeks - she can choose to go with the first doctor's opinion regardless of what the second says, and this way she has someone else's point of view. Taking classes with vet students has taught me that doctors are definitely NOT infallible and this is a pretty major decision to leave up to one person. Just my opinion... good luck with this, I really hope that everything ends up ok.

26 weeks is severly early; but babies can survive as early as 24 weeks. If she is having placental abruption there may be no choice but to bring the little one into the world. My first pregnancy I had seperation at 18 weeks and the doctors basically said that if I managed to hang on to 24-26 weeks they'd take him out but that he had no chance before then. I didn't make it that far; he died in utero at 20 weeks.

Depending on how the placenta is seperating there is a risk to the mother of hemeraging to death from a sudden tear. Also, the more the placenta seperates the less nutrients/oxygen the baby is getting. 75% is the max a placenta can seperate and the baby have any hope. Seperation can also significantly slow their development and reduce their amniotic fluid to nothing.

*I'm not meaning to scare anyone; just wanted to give input from my experience. Second opinions are alway good, ESPECIALLY when dealing with military doctors but of all the services the Air Force doc's have the best overall reputation and seem to get the best trained specialists.

Where is everyone?

I think I overdid it this weekend...spent two days walking around the chicken show....now my ribs on one side are KILLING me. I am not sure if it was the 10 hours in the car or the 9 hours of standing/walking on cement for two days....but my legs are sore and my ribs hurt really bad. It's a feeling like I got the wind knocked out of me or something...and it's high up....like on the side of my rib cage about 1/2 between the bottom and my arm pit.

Ugh, my allergies and pregnancy are fighting each other. I have to use my rescue inhaler all the time, plus the nebulizer. I sound wheezy but my oxygen stats are great. At least the morning sickness is gone for now.

Prayers for your friend and her baby Debi! I was a then micropremie at 30 weeks and 4 days, 39 years ago. I have horrid vision and allergies but otherwise normal enough. The Lord works miracles.

My vote would be the 2 days on concrete.... That happened to me at the last 2 day chicken show I attended. I thought it would be a good thing to get all of the excercise.. HA!! I swelled up like to Goodyear Blimp.. I hurt in places I never knew existed. It took a good 5hours with my feet propped up on 2 pillows for the swelling in my entire body to go down. I could see the 14k stamp etched into the skin on my ring finger for 2 days after..

I will know better next time though. I will have to make myself take sit down breaks. It's just so hard to be still when you are showing chickens. So many people to talk to!!!

Yes....that's probably what it is....my throat is still sore from gabbing about chickens. I'm normally very shy and quiet and HATE social situations--but put me in a building with 500+ chickens and some people that like them and I'll have a hay day! LOL

Oh and I had to put my feet up for 1/2 hour on Friday night just to get my cowboy boots off because the swelling so bad.
