Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

Ms.FuzzyButts :

Pregnancy induced forgetfulness has been, at times, funny. Today it has been the complete opposite. I got up early this morning to prepare food for the crockpot so it would be ready around 6pm for dinner, and left for work. A few minutes ago I walk into the kitchen to see how it's coming along.. I know what you may be thinking. Your thinking I must not have turned it on..... Your wrong. Oh, I turned it on alright. I just never plugged it up.

I have heard several studies lately, one on a talk radio station that I sometimes listen to, that were discussing the "pregnancy brain"--forgetfulness of course number one complaint. All these studies say that pregnant women have the opposite issue, they become better at remembering and multitasking..... not sure where they got the information but I am never as forgetful as when i am pregnant.

Hi everyone! I posted here a while ago but have been feeling so crappy that it has been FOREVER! Well now that I am 20 weeks I am finally feeling better and back! I have my level 2, 20 wk scan on Monday and can't wait! I want to know the sex soooo bad! My parents are coming with my husband and I. They were never able to get pregnant (I was adopted) so this will be the first ultrasound they ever see. I just hope everything is ok and goes well! I hope everyone else is doing well....I have a LOT of pages to catch up on!

Question,

has anyone here buy their carseat/travel system used???? is it worth the risk, or should the carseat definitely be the one thing bought new. I was holding out for new, but a lady I know has a classic pooh (doesn't match the theme but oh well) that's only been used for 1 kid, and they're asking $50 for it.

Whaddya all think?

in my opinion car seats and cribs should be new... but if you decide to get the used car seat.look on the bottom of it and there should be a date stamped in the plastic that says do not use after a certain date. car seats are only good for 5 years

car seats you can get 2nd hand - but I'd advise only if you know and trust the person selling and they say it hasn't been in an accident. even if there was an accident and the seat looks ok, it needs replacing. I'd not accept a hand-down from anyone I wouldn't trust with my life, since I'd be trusting them with my son's life.

and check the date on it.

never get a second hand mattress for your baby, though. you can re-use the cot, basket etc but replace the mattress!

I think it's best to get a car seat new. I also suggest checking out options other than a travel system. We used one for a couple months with our DD, but we hated it so much that we sold it and found another option. Some people really like them, but I know plenty of others who will agree with me. Just a friendly suggestion!

Thanks for the replies!!

I actually had a travel system with a previous baby, and used it A LOT. I'm not really sure how much I'd use one this time around, as we usually take the new baby in the stores in the carrier/carseat.

I have been telling everyone that I want new on the carseat, and my husband wants the crib new because the drop side cribs have been outlawed.

I did pick up a nice changing table today, though, at a yard sale - no mattress pad on the top, but that's OK, I'll make one and that way the pad is new

We have so many children we have been able to just pass down car seats from one to the next! When it comes to infant/toddler carseats, my advice is to buy the very best you can afford. Safety features and belts and harness' change almost yearly (if not every 6 months!), and alot of the newer styles have better features, not to mention weight classes. If you can find a stroller-car seat combo you can afford that you like, go for it- you'll need it anyways and not all car seats fit in all stollers, so if you want to take baby for a stroll in the mall or the park, youre going to want a car seat that fits 100% securely into the stroller (nothing sucks like having to wake a peacefully sleeping baby to take it out of the carseat, then transfer it into the stoller and having baby wake up crying and fussing, really slows things down!).

So, for us, as far as newborns and small kids, we buy new only if we dont have it on hand already or dont have the right size to pass down, other wise, I really suggest you buy new.
