Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

Hey everyone.....my platelets are back to 122,000, I am supposed to go home tomorrow--but it will depend on my labs. I did get to take a shower today! Audrey is doing well. She lost some weight but is eating, sleeping, screaming, burping and pooping/peeing as she should.

Hi Ladies,
I just had to reply here. I check on you guys every one in a while.
I work in a hospital lab. I am one of those people behind the scenes working on your lab work.
I also work in the Blood Bank and I have to tell you that an OB patient going bad sends chills up my spine.
We sometimes have to work under immense pressure to provide safe compatable blood products to you or your babies.
It is not like in the movies where you can get blood in 2 seconds. Most of the time unless it is emergency release products, there is testing that needs to be done.

Let me just say there was once a case that took up my whole 8 hour shift. Everyone was fine and stable when I went home, but
that is one case I will never forget. All kinds of things go through your head driving home after working a night shift like that.

I love my job. I love the challlenges Blood Bank provides. I hope that every day when I step into the Blood Bank if there
is an emergency, I will be on top of it.

Glad to read that everything went well for you Rare Feathers. Now enjoy that new baby.

Yeah our little hospital does not keep platelets. So they had to be driven from Yakima to Omak (4 hours) to get me one bag. After one bag I went back up to 47,000 platelets. My liver enzyme levels were 1,500. I ended up only getting that one bag of platelets but it was still so scary--especially since I never had high blood pressure. However I did have some of the other symptoms but they were dismissed as early labor and dehydration.

That is scary, thankfully all you got was platelets. Your chances of making a red cell antibody from a platelet unit are almost nothing.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

I am A negative too. You did mean negative right? When you guys get the Rhogam shots, that is a whole series of testing for us to do also.
Platelets are not affected by Rhogam.
Those bags of platelets are mainly plasma with the solid cells being platelets. That is why it was yellow in color.

So did they tell you your baby's blood type??

I'm not a huge fan of Wal-Mart, but out of curiosity I checked out their maternity clothes online today since I didn't want to go shopping by myself in the rain today. They have some really great deals in the clearance area, but their other regular priced stuff is not that bad either.

For example, I found a pair of maternity overalls for $10. How cute!

I'm actually heading to Walmart today (I hope lol) to do some baby shopping!

I have some gift cards from my shower and one that came in the mail that are burning a hole in my wallet!

I hope to get my diaper bag today, some more nursing pads, baby hangers, a storage basekt (or two), and maybe some crib sheets.

My Wal-Mart is pitiful.... No Maternity clothes whatsoever. And fairly limited on the selection of baby stuff. Needless to say my first trip to Babies R' Us, an hour away, was like a small town girl seeing the bright lights of Vegas for the first time.. I was in awe!! I only went for one thing and ended up staying in there for a little over two hours, and still didn't look at everything. As far as giftcards go, I have been holding on to a $100 Bed Bath and Beyond card. I don't know what to buy!! So many choices!!

Our Wal-Mart is just a regular one, not a super center, and they have NO maternity clothes in store. So, I just shop online and have them sent to the store or to me, whichever has the best shipping deal going on at the time.
