I love this contest! I have a list of the chickens I want now...when the others taper off. I got 24 of the same kind. My brain was being super boring when I figured that up.

Variety is the best! I love my colorful egg basket and so do my customers! Gotta wait for my olive egger to start laying to add that to my basket!

On the left is Dolly my SLW's first egg! On the right is Marilyns', my golden comet.
Only her first 3 eggs looked like this, sometimes I find one with even finer speckles! She's about 6 months old. Sorry the picture of her isn't very good. Its the only one I have of her after she started laying. She's on the SLW on the left.

Thanks!

My egg customers get them first. They're very popular. Which is why I only have 2 of them in my winter stash.

ETA: Thanks to you too, Princess Chicken!

I get two different kinds of speckled eggs. The first comes from one hen:

1) Breed of hen that layed egg - Barred Rock
2) Age (or approx. age) of hen at the time the egg was laid - 20 months
3) How often these types of eggs are laid by this particular hen (i.e., sometimes they lay speckled, sometimes solid - give as many particulars as you know) - usually mostly solid with a few speckles at the big end, maybe once a month like this one. The background color is much lighter when they're this speckled
4) Size of egg (peewee, small, medium, large, XL, Jumbo?) - large

The second comes from one of 3 different hens:
1) Breed of hen that layed egg - BO or BOxProduction Red (the BO may be the mother of the other 2, or it could be the other BO I had last year who was killed by a hawk right after raising the babies

)

2) Age (or approx. age) of hen at the time the egg was laid - the BO is 20 months, the 2 crosses are 14 months
3) How often these types of eggs are laid by this particular hen (i.e., sometimes they lay speckled, sometimes solid - give as many particulars as you know) - there's always a little white speckling on their pink eggs, but it's like this maybe 25% of the time, almost invisible 25% of the time, and moderate about 50% of the time
4) Size of egg (peewee, small, medium, large, XL, Jumbo?) - large

Here's a look at several: the middle one is the first one shown above - the lower two are from the same hen and are her typical eggs. The one on the right is the second pic above, the top 2 are from the same group of 3 hens.

The speckled ones are definitely favorites among my customers too! Occasionally my EEs have pale white speckling on their green background but never as dramatic as what I've seen from the rest of you! Nice pictures!
