Facing a major life decision, how to deal with negative people?

I see that you have had some wonderful advice given!

I would like to chime in that there are places you can live where you can rent trailers and be on a bus line. Presto!!! You can get to shopping and jobs. I would make that a NECESSITY. You don't want to be dependent on others for transportation.

1. transportation
2. job
3. cleanliness and peace in your home

Living with someone you don't get along with is a recipe for disaster. Your home is your powerhouse. Keep yourself calm at all costs.

Don't get sucked into feeling hostility. God is love, and I believe He notices especially when we are trying to love someone who seems difficult to love.

I agree with this 100%.

If you can't manage a car right now you definately need to be where public transportation is available to you. You mentioned riding a scooter......I doubt that you can manage one if your leg can't move quick enough in a car to the brake pedal. You certainly need two good legs to ride any kind of 2 wheeled vehicle.

As far as panicking because the landlord is coming for an inspection.......keeping a clean house every day of the year would have made this a non-issue instead of something to panic about.

Lots of us have health issues that make doing every day tasks harder, but we do them anyway. My husband has had a bulging disk in his back with pain down his leg for 30 years but he hasn't let it slow him down....still farms full time at 64 and very seldom puts in less than a 10 or 12 hour day.

Are the class you're taking with an online university, or online classes with a "regular" college?

Life is what you make it. You can either lay around and complain and list off the reasons your life is the way it is, or you can put on your big girl panties and deal with what you've been dealt. Your life and the lives of those around you would be a whole lot happier if you choose the latter.

OK, the first post of yours says it all about the repairs. You say you are "renting to own". In Illinois, that is a contract-for-deed. When a buyer does one of these (did you sign paperwork) the buyer does all repairs, taxes, insurance . . .all of it. It is just like a regular mortgage, only the seller is the bank. I would leave that house . . .its a money pit and probably unsafe as well just from reading all the other things that went wrong . . .I would contact the habitat for humanity group and see if you are eligible for a home to be built, the lot is included in the price and you have to work on the house a lot of hours too, but they are the sweetest nicest little homes and exactly what you need.

Bad as I hate to say it, that seller saw you coming . . .and took full advantage of you. Good luck . . .but that trailer sounds like the best option, mom going along or not. I know she has problems, but we all deal with something, and maybe her being forced to be alone for a little while on her own would help her realize how good she really did have it. . .its a shame she talks to you and the kids that way . . .doesn't do a thing but make more stress and problems. . .

Just do something. Don't complain and not do anything because it is easier. It looks to me like you have already taken the easiest path

The house isn't dirty, it's falling apart. Cracks in the walls, peeling wallpaper, buckling floorboards, cabinet doors falling off, etc. I believe yes, he saw us coming, and I'm sorry we didn't realize it sooner. I've been talking with my mom, and she is talking more calmly about it, and we're discussing all our options. We're going through clothes today, washing and putting away what we plan to keep, and getting the blankets ready for winter. The rest goes. We found some vinyl flooring in a Montgomery Ward catalog that came today (thought they had gone bankrupt and closed down in the 90's?) and it's like normal vinyl tiles that you would put down in your kitchen, except that these are long like planks of wood, and made to look like wood. So we're considering getting them and putting them down in the living room. At least we finally have a line of communication going.

I did contact that link for the social security. It wasn't the department though, it was a law firm, but I contacted them because they will be able to tell me if I qualify or not. Perhaps if I can get on it, I can get the necessary medical care to fix my back. That would be great. It can only go up from here.
