We are not quite sure what happened but one of our 33 week old Australorp ladies had a stroke, got injured or got sick. She went lethargic and paralytic, then started limping as she got better. She has been isolated from the 8 others ladies for 1.5 weeks while we nursed her back to health. I’m so thankful as she has made a full recovery. Now we are trying to reintroduce her to the flock a little bit at a time and a couple of our other ladies are not having it. How do you introduce or reintroduce chickens to your flock? Is this just reestablishing pecking order (she was kind of one of the dominating pullets before this happened) and it will just take time. Or will they never accept her again and now I need to keep her separate? When do you say “ok, this is more than just pecking order?” Thanks for any advice!

One at a time, over a period of time (days not hours) introduce birds to her in her area. Good luck. A once dominant bird will have to regain her position in the social structure.
