Fairy Tail Farms English Orpingtons

Found my foster parents for the incubator eggs. Both Cheese the silkie and my Cornish were on failed nests, so hopefully they stay on them long enough to still be broody and willing to take the chicks. I might end up seeing if Cheese can take all of them though and give the Cornish some chicks from another nest since I'm fairly confident this hen hasn't had a nest yet, or at least a successful one.

Cheese seems to be a pretty good mama as long as she is given strong chicks and doesn't have a raccoon or bull snake chowing down on them.

Do any of you let eggs rest before incubating when you get shipping eggs? I have some coming from Moony tomorrow but I've never hatched shipped eggs lol
I let mine rest at least 24 hours, upright and not tilting if the air cells are wonky. If they look good, I might put them in the LG egg turner for 24 hours. Then I set them. If air cells are loose, they incubate upright and not turning for several days. If the air cells look good they can be set upright in the Sportsman and turned, or on their side in the NR 360.
Lol, but no. Something totally as weird but completely different.
Extra Leghorn cockerels?
@ColtHandorf , did you send some extra eggs to your buyers?
I did. I generally send two extras for every dozen eggs. More if I can spare them. Jessie and AMM got one extra of each color they ordered. I could have sent more, but they weren't as fresh, and I didn't want to cram the box so full I couldn't get enough packing material in there to keep them safe. Jessie also had an additional dozen in her box that was going to the neighbor. The Araucana eggs are smaller than the Orpingtons, and since the Pony Express was delivering, I included six extra eggs. AMM's eggs had the furthest to go, so I didn't stuff more than the 14 in her box so there would be plenty of popcorn and bubble wrap to keep them safe. To my knowledge, none of the eggs arrived cracked or broken.
I wonder who gets credit for saying it lol
Moony, of course.
So leave them in an egg carton then into incubator but don't turn for a day?
Depends on what the air cells look like.
I posted this in the Texas thread but feel it is quite appropriate right this minute
I've got eggs hatching in three days. I need to sort chicks when I get home and clean brooder tubs.
Looks like I've got 8 araucana going strong, give or take one.

Colt, would you be interested in eggtopsy photos after hatch to see what stages they stopped at?
I'm not interested in seeing them. I don't perform them on my eggs. There's no point. They didn't hatch. So they get tossed to the vermin to eat.
I'm jealous 😉
lol Your box couldn't have held any more eggs, I don't think, with the neighbor's in there too. You can always get more later. Or make the drive up for chicks or eggs. lol

Okay. I figured I'd ask since some people want to see where they failed in the egg and some don't.

@Tonyroo , I'll tag you in my thread when I do them.
