I think all the blocks I've seen in person and on the thread have been very nice and no one has anything to be not proud of.



I am so not a good judge of what winter colors are, seeing as I hate it to the bottom of my frostbitten toenails!!!!! To me winter colors woud be black, grey, white, dead brown. However theorettically I could see winter colors being blues, whites, deep greens, greys, blacks.

This was my first swap because I have been too self critical to participate. It is very scary -  BUT it is so much FUN!!!! 

I could not have picked a better, kinder bunch of people - you are all just wonderful  ... AND incredibly talented!!  I cannot wait to get my squares because I get a little bit of each of you with them.  And all the new patterns and thoughts - these are all just wonderfuly creative.  And that energy translates.  How could I ever have hoped to get improve if I never dared to stretch beyond my comfort zone?


I guess if it's cold and snowing you may wish for 70 degrees, but my husband and I are playing Father Christmas (and I'm spinning) at a museum this weekend and that costume will be extremely warm for these temperatures. It just doesn't feel much like Christmas in Kansas when it's this warm.  But it is -so we will go be merry anyway!

I would love the opportunity to participate in a winter swap.  And then a spring and then  ...   what can I say - I'm hooked!  hee  hee

I'm with you on this. It was my first swap too, and honestly I had so much fun doing it. I can't wait for the next one!!

My two cents on the winter idea: blues, white, dark green (think pine trees), grey. Yummy.

This is almost exactly what I was thinking, with maybe some cool purples added?

Winter sunsets are beautiful. I think the Yellow would be too much but could be replaced by off-white type colors.

I love the idea of white, grey, blue and dark green. Also I like the flexibility of fancy or plain squares for a number of reasons. That being said, I'm travelling this Winter and don't yet know when I leave, where I go or what kind of transportation I'll have, so I'm going to have to limit my crochet projects/commitments. If I can manage it, I'll participate as a donor and just make as many squares as I can. I'll have my computer with me, so will probably be able to be in touch.

I did however mail my squares from there and did all the work start to finish. I also brought back more yarn than I left with. I had planned to do extra squares but just didn't take the time. It was a good trip but it had it's rough points too. Stuck my needle in the checked luggage.

Now if you do a solid white square you'd only need to carry one color of yarn and a crochet hook. You can chew the ends of the yarn off so you don't need to carry scissors.

I'm sure they have a post office where ever you're going. No need to single bag them if you really want to participate. We'll know your squares cuz they'll be the only one NOT in a baggie.

I didn't know that, I thought they would be more acceptable on a plane then scissors. I have never flown in a plane as an adult and only once as a child.

Am I right in sensing no one wants to host a Winter Swap?

If I am this is what I propose if allowed to Host it.

1. The size square be 6". This will make it easier for beginners. After all they are just as important as us old geezers and gals.

2. The final round be white or blue. I get to pick the brand and color for the last round. I'll go to the store and have a look. I'm leaning toward a blue.

3. The box size be the medium flat rate size that the PO has. Though in all honesty you can ship cheaper Parcel Post but use that size box. Total cost priority is $22.70 round trip. Parcel Post should be less.

4. No squares be individually bagged and tagged. This will save money and time. Just stuff them in a box with tissue paper. You can post your squares here and we can all see who did what if you like.

5. The colors be, white, blue, grey or pine green. Unless you do a Holly motif then you can use red for the berries. I haven't seen one but we don't want to stifle the creativity in some people here. No Black.

6. Squares of solid color and simple granny are allowed. Provided the last round is blue or white depending on which we choose.

7. All members must crochet enough squares as there are participants or just stuff that box! I'd like us to do them up and donate whatever size we get to charity, but you don't have to. You could do one special square for each member and finish up with plain grannies. Squares will be divided evenly after each member gets a special square.

This sounds good. I'm not clear on the special square part, but trust you on this. Because of my travelling, it might be easier to find white than a particular blue, but if you prefer blue, I'll just do what I can.
