Fallen Feathers -A Chicken Roleplay

Turtle scanned the undergrowth. There. He saw a small black and white cockerel crouched in a bush with an orange one. Frosty and Robin! He didn’t want to give away his position, but he was fairly certain mongeese? Mongooses? -He thought he’d heard it was mongooses-
Mongooses can’t climb trees.
“Up here!” He said, waving frantically at the huddled forms, making their location fairly obvious to any predators.
The relentless mongoose growled and slunk over to the bush where the cockerels were hiding.

Frosty's eyes widened. "Robin! You pumpkin-looking cockerel! We have to get away!" He shook his friend with a wing.
Robin blinked, then looked at Frosty with a terrified expression. "Oh-okay," he mumbled. Frosty scrambled out of the undergrowth and launched himself into the air. The mongoose hissed and leapt forward, its claws barely brushing Frosty's tail feathers. Frosty landed, looking quite shaken, in a branch below Turtle. Frosty turned around to stare at Robin urgently, shouting, "Now, Robin! It's distracted!"
Robin thrust himself out of the tangled bushes with a clumsy heave. He got ready to fly when he realized, to his horror, that his leg was tangled in the vines. He tugged at it, panic filling up his chest. "Oh, feathers, please..." he muttered, his voice rising a bit as the foot continued to be stuck.

"Robin!" Turtle shouted. Oh I sure am glad I'm not down there with him right now. He's a goner for sure.
Turtle's legs shook as the mongoose slithered towards the bush, gnashing it's fearsome teeth.
The cockerel was still flapping and struggling. Turtle's eyes smacked shut.
I can't watch. A coward, that's what I am.

Amber looked frantically between Robin and the others. “We have to do something!” She exclaimed, standing up. Taking a deep breath, she began squawking and flapping as loud as she could in a desperate attempt to claim the attacker’s attention. Who cares if I look like a looney. If this helps him than so be it.

The mongoose narrowed his eyes and stared up at her before continuing his advance.
Turtle looked up. Hard, unripe green things dangled above his head.
Coconuts!
He blessed his luck, they weren’t very common.
Turtle pecked at the coconut. It began swinging.
“Help me knock these coconuts down!” He exclaimed.

Amber glanced up and located one near enough for her to reach. Standing, she stretched out her neck and began pecking at the coconut, causing it to rock back and forth violently.

One strong peck by Turtle and his coconut plummeted.
Plop! The coconut landed right next to the mongoose, distracting it momentarily. It turned its head to the trees.
“Robin, get up here!” Turtle hissed.

Robin struggled, flapping his wings frantically. Frosty watched with huge eyes, whispering "C'mon, c'mon," under his breath. As soon as he realized what Turtle was talking about, he threw himself at a coconut, scrambling and pecking at the part that attached it to the tree.
It wasn't ready to fall down.
His heart hammered in his chest as she saw the Mongoose get closer and closer to his friend out of the corner of his eye. He yanked at the tough stem again and felt a moment of terror as he realized he was falling. He flapped his wings and landed in a lower branch, his beak agape as he took in breath.

“Frosty!” Turtle squeaked. He practically stopped breathing as the cockerel tumbled down to another branch. “You can’t do these things to me!”
With a determined peck, he sent another coconut swinging.

Robin pecked at the vine again, and with a quick thrash, he was suddenly free. As quick as he could, he flew up to the branch under Frosty, his heart beating faster than a Hummingbird's wing.

The mongoose growled and paced below the tree. Turtle's eyes trailed it, his adrenalin fading.
Eventually the mongoose moved on, and he released a breath. "That... was a close one," he sighed. We really need to get home.

“Yeah,” Amber agreed, finally relaxing. “But what if we run into another one when we go back down there?” She nervously peered at the bushes below them.

I don't know, Turtle thought. We can't seriously get that lucky again.
"Well, we also can't stay up here. We have to go back sometime. Unless we're still determined to find water in this place."
