Fallen Feathers -A Chicken Roleplay

Amber let out a frightened squawk and jumped back as a mongoose leapt out of the bushes, her hackles fluffed from the surprise. Then she recovered herself and flew aggressively at the attacker, letting out a yell to boost her morale. “Die, vile creature!” She stabbed at it with her beak. “Stay away from my friends!”
The mongoose chattered and attacked the aggressor, grabbing her tail.
“Mongooses never give up!” Turtle gasped, remembering the stories he had heard of them. “There’s no way to fight them off! The only way to shake him is to fly!”
Turtle flapped up to rake his claws down the mongoose’s side, in order to make it let go of Amber, who’s wings were a blur.
Sure he might not be able to do any damage, but it might be enough to distract the animal, and “Amber! Get away from him!” He said through gritted teeth.
The mongoose snarled and let go of Amber, grabbing his leg.
Turtle’s heart stopped when he saw the blood on his leg, as the mongoose bit down on it like a piece of meat.

Amber broke free and turned to fly when she saw what was happening to Turtle. “Hey dummy!” She yelled, trying to get the creature’s attention. An angry little ball of feathers, claws, and a sharp beak landed on the mongoose’s face, clawing at its eyes. “When he drops you, go! I’ll be right behind you!” She shouted to Turtle.

Turtle screamed as the animal bit down on his leg, hard.
But soon it was distracted by the ferocious hen on its face, and let go.
Turtle scrambled away, desperately hoping that Amber was alright. Frosty and Robin were nowhere to be seen. Maybe they got away.
Turtle flew upwards, liftoff even more awkward due to his injured leg.
But he still managed to claw his way onto a low-lying tree branch on a younger tree, sideling up on its fallen elder. He was powered by fear alone. He knew this is where he'd be next, even if Amber's words would have contradicted him.
He couldn't bear to watch the events unfold below him, but he had always been a coward. Turtle would never be able to deliver the final strike. He would always be the one to call a retreat or to hide in the brush.

As soon as Turtle was clear Amber flapped upward as hard as she could. Her aimless escape path brought her to a low branch across the small clearing from Turtle, and she clung to it, panting. Thankfully it was out of the mongoose’s reach. “Frosty? Robin?” She called out, scanning the forest floor nervously.

Turtle narrowed his eyes and stared at the undergrowth with as much intensity as the little orange spotted cockerel.
Were they about to meet their first predator? Was one of them about to become lunch?
The bush moved slightly, and Turtle flinched backwards.
“What’s that thing where moss grows on one side of a tree? Doesn’t it only grow on the east side or somethi-” Amber turned around and froze at the sight of the cockerels staring nervously into the bushes, stopping mid sentence. Trying to be brave, she fluffed up her feathers defensively. “Who’s there?” She called out, the sound breaking the uneasy stillness as she silently wished she was tall enough to see over the bushes.
Silence. Turtle couldn’t see anything in the crowded shrubbery. It couldn’t be very big then, a rodent maybe. He could feel himself beginning to relax, but he kept his eyes trained on the bush.
SNAP! Turtle had barely the time to react, all he could do was raise his hackles as something slinky and sharp-nosed lept towards Frosty’s skinny neck. His feigned handicap had attracted a predator.
A mongoose! His first instinct was to run, but Frosty was in danger! He lept towards the animal.
"Don't worry, guys, Robin always does this when he's in the jungle. Nothing to be afraid-" Frosty screeched as a sharp-toothed creature hurled towards him. Out of reflex, he jumped two feet into the air, flailing with his claws to try and fend off the creature. He landed somewhere in the undergrowth.

Robin had dashed into the undergrowth and crouched there, frozen in terror. It seemed like he was a chick all over again. Hearing the shrieks of battle but not being able to do anything. Except, this time, he could see it...
Frosty barged into Robin. "C'mon! We have to get in a tree! Didn't you hear Turtle?!" Robin continued to stand still, shivering.
(Sorry, I didn't have internet for a while.)

Turtle scanned the undergrowth. There. He saw a small black and white cockerel crouched in a bush with an orange one. Frosty and Robin! He didn’t want to give away his position, but he was fairly certain mongeese? Mongooses? -He thought he’d heard it was mongooses-
Mongooses can’t climb trees.
“Up here!” He said, waving frantically at the huddled forms, making their location fairly obvious to any predators.
The relentless mongoose growled and slunk over to the bush where the cockerels were hiding.

Frosty's eyes widened. "Robin! You pumpkin-looking cockerel! We have to get away!" He shook his friend with a wing.
Robin blinked, then looked at Frosty with a terrified expression. "Oh-okay," he mumbled. Frosty scrambled out of the undergrowth and launched himself into the air. The mongoose hissed and leapt forward, its claws barely brushing Frosty's tail feathers. Frosty landed, looking quite shaken, in a branch below Turtle. Frosty turned around to stare at Robin urgently, shouting, "Now, Robin! It's distracted!"
Robin thrust himself out of the tangled bushes with a clumsy heave. He got ready to fly when he realized, to his horror, that his leg was tangled in the vines. He tugged at it, panic filling up his chest. "Oh, feathers, please..." he muttered, his voice rising a bit as the foot continued to be stuck.

"Robin!" Turtle shouted. Oh I sure am glad I'm not down there with him right now. He's a goner for sure.
Turtle's legs shook as the mongoose slithered towards the bush, gnashing it's fearsome teeth.
The cockerel was still flapping and struggling. Turtle's eyes smacked shut.
I can't watch. A coward, that's what I am.
