Falling Down Heights, my daily life

Well, it's done. Last four drakes have been dispatched, including Derpy. He required special care (feeding separately to ensure he got enough) plus there was no guarantee his exposed tongue would freeze over winter. And even with all the individual care I've given him since he was a hatchling, he wasn't friendly or trusting. I didn't want him mating in the Spring either.

It's cold and wet out there, with the snow melting. I'll process the ducks in a bit, maybe over a couple of days.

Blah, done for today. I should have realized that Derpy would have other issues due to the crossed bill. He was COVERED is lice/mite eggs! No live ones and his skin was fine. It makes sense though since he was unable to preen.

All I did today was pluck Derpy, then finish the portioning out on the previous ones that were aging in the cooler. Tomorrow I'll tackle the other three drakes and at least get them skinned.

Change in plans. Think I'm taking the day off. It's cloudy and rain is expected any time now. Plus, the skies rivalled the most spectacular sunset this morning and we all know what that means.

On top of that, I lost my balance earlier and fell over and slashed my palm shallowly in a couple of spots and do not want to be working with raw meat like this. I have it bandaged up (gauze pad and electric tape!) and put ointment on it. Think it got cut on a piece of chicken wire.

Good news is that it's not going down below freezing tonight, nor for the next few days! Hopefully get some stuff done, but I doubt it...

Welp, warm weather for the last two days is ending. The wind is gusting and we're going from 20c down to -3 by morning.

Almost got myself stuck in a rabbit cage. Needed to fix a hole and of course it was in the back corner of the middle unit of a three cage unit. Had to get my arms and shoulders through to reach the spot to fix it. Easier in than out! But it's done and three more buns have been moved next to the trailer.
