Falling Down Heights, my daily life

The Red Pyle OEGB started laying!!! :wee

Well, one of the four is laying. ABOUT TIME! The Lemon Blue have been for over a month!

Out of curiosity I cracked it open and remarkably it was fertile. Then again, that little cockerel is very randy...
Congrats on the new layer Wind! :woot

T'was a cold day. Ice everywhere, all the drinking water frozen and had to be broken through. I'd anticipated this and had filled most water containers the previous evening.

The ice on the trough in the duck pen was easily 1cm thick!

Got very little done. Did take the dog for a walk, something I rarely do due to my various pains, especially my feet, but for some reason I had an urge to today. Not very far, maybe about 20 minutes to a half hour as I took it easy on my poor feet, but he enjoyed it (and so did I!).

Weather warms up again for a few days this week so I'll be busy with winter prep.

Gah! Had to remove the little Silver Duckwing OEGB hen from the small coop tonight. I'd noticed *something* was up but wasn't sure what.

Tonight, the new roo (Isabel Cochin banty) was preventing her from going inside.

Placed her in an empty bunny cage with lotsa food, water, and deep shavings for the night. Planned on introducing her to the Lemon Blues so that may happen sooner rather than later.

Cold and rainy! Actually had ice pellets overnight. Supposed to rain all day but I need to finish butchering and packing the rabbits now that the carcasses have aged a few days.

The Mini Rex doe I got at auction still hasn't given birth, but I'll give her until this weekend. Hopefully I'll have the outside shelter done by then in case she doesn't so I can put her out for the winter.

The other doe that may be pregnant will be due at the start of December so she's going to need to come inside. NOT very practical! My own fault though for not checking my repairs on that cage properly.

Maybe some nice rabbit pelt gloves....
Too thick! I do want to make mittens though, and maybe a hood.

I'm the type that likes to be able to properly feel what I'm doing with my hands. Even when gardening, I never wear gloves, I like to feel the earth in my hands.
