Famous Hatchery 'Pure Bred' Appearances

Pics
I remember back when I was younger, I got my first chicks as RIR's from a feed store. I looked up pictures of the real deal and was soo excited when I saw the dark red birds in the pictures. In reality, my RIR's grew up to be ginger in color. I have yet now to do an upgrade lol. Those rich ones are soo rare in Canada. So, I still have my hatchery RIR's and they lay well, so what's the point of getting rid of them
My RIR is only 5 mos old and my Buckeye is much darker, but I think the Buckeyes are supposed to be dark as well. Correct?

This surprises me. I figured Buckeyes would be about the same color.
Our top Buckeye breeder here in Alberta breeds both Buckeyes and RIRs and the Buckeyes are always lightly lighter. Mind you, the Standard doesn't seem to make a difference between the two bird's colors

Someone is welcome to correct me if I am wrong about this but Buckeyes were originally darker than RIRs. It could be that Buckeyes have become a bit lighter over the years, but I suspect that heritage RIR breeders of recent times have just taken the color closer to the buckeyes... and of course it could be both of these things.

Sounds right. To tell you the truth, I know absolutely nothing about the Buckeye breed lol
