Famous Hatchery 'Pure Bred' Appearances

Now apparently

And if you are still bored, here is the classical Teen Chases Fox Chasing Chicken-
The fox meets the SOP btw, unfortunately the teen does too. Well unfortunately for the fox.

Good Heavens! Darned shame that young man wasn't just a tad faster! I hope that little red bugger was scared enough to stay away. I can hear that little fox now ..."Dag, they're growing those biddies BIG 'round here!"

Feather shredder?
I've heard the terms Blue and Self-Blue used almost interchangeably, so I was curious about the difference. I never knew that the latter was actually the "lavender" color until tonight. If I ever come across a lavender Nankin in my stock, I'll know that either one of my hens went to an unauthorized party ... or I'm going to be very, very wealthy! :)
Hehe. Considering the Nankin is an old breed I find that highly unlikely, however, we can dream dreams. Birds with lavender feathers have poor quality feathers. I found that out with my Lavender d'Anvers which constantly look dirty and gritty. I'm going to the blues now, they're more attractive anyways.

A question to ponder while waiting for @BlackHackle next post....

Do birds with SOP produce superior eggs??????? Is there an SOP for eggs from SOP hens????
:plbb
In general, you just want eggs of the correct shade, good proportions, with consistent shell thickness and shape. Hens with a tendency to produce weird meat spots or things are frowned on, at least by me. They do hold egg contests at some fairs/shows.

:lau

LOL, it's really gonna' blow your mind when you plug this fact into your visual... I'm a dude!

Now wait, keep me in the same dress...same shoes... now play that scene back in your head again :lau
I never would have guessed!

I’m sure it’s just me, but I find it very odd that the APA SOP book uses paintings of the “perfect” bird instead of a picture of an actual bird that meets the standard. If there isn’t an actual perfect specimen, I’m surprised, in today’s technology driven world, one isn’t photoshopped. Now what about that?
I believe the ABA was at least thinking about doing a book with photos. I think that many/most of the images were painted before photo manipulation became common, and now it's expensive to redo.

The SOP book unfortunately does not have accurate pictures. Did you see the Buckeyes? They're hideous! Now mine are above hatchery stock but they aren't Baker's birds. (Aaron Baker is a well known Buckeye breeder.)
And the Partridge Chanteclers! They'd not even place in a real show. The red on them could light up a room.

This is from Cackle hatchery. Asil.

This is one of mine.

The most obvious difference is that there are an awful lot of asils in their picture. Looks like two males in the same picture. I could not do that without taxidermy.

Yes! All of the pea combs look horrible, I guess walnuts to too, and the shapes of those breasts! Deformed?

Now apparently
No that's just what I call the "discussion"
I have not really been paying much attention though, just waiting for the next picture, well if BH ever gets around to it lol.

Would be weird if the teen came on here right now and wondered why he was being compared to some weird chicken standard.
