Fannie Farmer's Classic Baked Macaroni and Cheese

and, OH MY GOODNESS, is it ever good!

ETA.... I usually skip the buttered bread crumbs on mac & cheese recipes, but I didn't on this one. If you make it, DON'T skip 'em, they were soooooo yummy on it!

I had some for lunch and it is just as good warmed over. The only thing I did different than the recipe was to add a dash of red pepper and a pinch of dry mustard. Really, really, good, creamy mac & cheese! (Don't even want to think about the fat and calories though.)
