I’d love a little insight on my 6wk old faverolles. one is almost completely white with a few salmon spots. Is this a cockerel? and can someone please explain the recessive white gene? The other fav has so much blue iits throwing me off. they are from a local breeder. she didn’t not have other breeds so they are not mixed her birds were beautiful the rooster looked like your text book faverolles but she had one standard salmon and one darker in color. i chose a chick from each hen (same rooster) neither bird looks like your typical salmon faverolles. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. i’ve waited a long time for these birds and neither look like i expected.

Both look male, and they appear to be mixed colors. Not mixed breed, but mixed colors within the breed.

Really? i was sure the colored on was female. the 2 birds are very different in posture feathering and comb. So, how did i end up w/ 2 strange colored Favs when the parents looked pretty basic? the white one was the only one colored that way.

Well wow. I was going to say this. I’m not an expert on anything but I was thinking that both birds were female for sure. If any were male it would be the white one. They are beautiful birds.

i had the same thoughts. I was just bragging about the accuracy of my “roo-dar” and then BOOM this batch of chicks has stumped me multiple time. i guess Karma is teaching me not to brag and i’ll probably have to wait for an egg or a crow. The struggle is real.

So the one on the right you say is Miss Phoebe? She is a nice female specimen reminding me of what one of my favorite Flower Hens looked like as a babe before her colors came in. She is a beauty now I think. I will post a pic of my flock of 9. The Flower Hens are the three speckled looking ones. She has s golden browns and whites and her two sisters- one is dark grays and white and the last of the three is black and white mixed feathering. My other threes are three black/lavender Orpingtons, and three Creme Legbars-these look like large quail.

Oh I love flower hens! your blue/black one is very pretty. I have one pullet named Pippilotta Longstockhens. i wish i would have planned for a few more. Next years goals, right. Pippi is super brave and curious and confident but not at all aggressive. she and pheobe are roost mates. Do you breed flower hens?
