Lavenders have a really weird feather quality. Its almost like the fray gene and the lavender gene are some how linked. Cindy you can see this with the Lav D'uccles cockerels I brought up they have weird feathers. I think that is what makes it such a hard color wish there were lav orp bantams that would have made getting the type into favs now we have to contend with the vulture hocks.

Henry

The Coronations have that weird feather quality too, mostly in the hackles. One reason to keep some lights around.

OK. Those do sound pretty. Aren't there some working with lav. cochins, would they work and no vulture hocks?

Not sure I guess we could use those. I will look into it. Oh most of the lav cochins I have seen still have vulture hocks or squirrel tails. I will look for some good ones .

Yep that is why black birds need to be kept around even in more established lavender lines. Its getting bad with the D'uccles you will see tomorrow.

I will check him out in the morning then. I'll be bringing the LF chicks for you and Dick to look over plus the bantam reds. I think the kids want to bring the bantam splash salmon pair too, as long as it keeps them out of trouble.

Hi everyone!

I have a question for you all.

A few weeks back, the subject of non-beard Favs came up on this thread. Can someone please tell me if there's a breeder somewhere for them? I have a completely muffless, beardless bantam pullet and I'm not sure whether I want to venture off into that variety or not. She's really kind of weird looking after seeing only bearded Favs. She was hatched from bearded birds, so I'm clueless as to how it happened. If anyone wants to see pics, I'll post some tomorrow morning.

but i did get 15 Welsummer chicks that I probably won't be keeping.

Does this breed or the bantam in particular tend to have digestion problems? On my 2 that are a few weeks old now, I noticed both on the same day (yesterday or Tuesday?) had some protrusion of their vents. One slightly prolapsed the other not. Then today I decided they seem to be constipated because their vents are even more protruded but now neither is prolapsed and there is poo in it but not what I'd call pasty none on the outside except what's trying to come out of the vent. This I discovered today of course as I'm prepping the feeders/waterers/etc to leave town for the weekend. The one that had the slight prolapse is less active but the other seems to be dong fine running around with all the other chicks. I gave then both a couple of drops of olive oil. They are getting same water, food, etc as other chicks (who are different breeds). The only difference is I gave a drop of polyvisol to the less active one because he was a curled toe splay legged one and has always been puny but was actually perking up and getting around and growing. So what's the deal???
