Faverolles Thread

Well, as long as we're posting rooster pics...LOL...

Here's my new cockerel, I just picked him up today. His daddy is from my original hatch from Dick. He's just about 6 months old (this pic was a couple weeks ago). I'll get more pics of him after he's settled in better.

Nice looking boy!

Good idea! I just happened to snap a new one of one of my boys today. Here is Squiggy. I can't believe he is the head roo of my mixed flock right now. Even the big boys run when he comes near. Lennie is his right hand man. Those 2 are always busy doing something and grumbling the whole time. LOL
I am having 2 new coops built and hopefully will be done this weekend and then I can separate better. Then I want to get a million more Favs!

Handsome dude!!

Ack! What a hectic week! I'm still going to highschool and I keep my birds on our school's agricultural class FFA class farm. We accept chickens that people don't want anymore or can't take care of, but I find that I only ever get surprised with more roosters. Usually people just drop them off, and I have to catch them and figure out what to do with them.

Well, someone left me a group of very mean game cocks that beat up my best roosters, and have been almost impossible to catch. On attempt five to catch these roosters, I finally have them all but my favorite Faverolle boy had to be taken home and isolated. I was afraid he would be pecked by the flock, and I wanted to make sure he was okay since he had been pecked a lot on his beak. ): On top of that, he managed to somehow rip off his spur sheath ( is that what it's called?) on the cage and that was a bloody mess. I feel so terrible for him! The poor thing has been clucking for his girls all day but doesn't seem to notice the spur.

AND OFCOURSE. I'm going to a show next week! Do you think I should keep him home or will his spur be healed enough by then to go?

Everyone's boys look really good, by the way! I agree, those beards are just amazing!

The spur will heal fine. If you read back a few posts to mame1616's from the NE Poultry Congress you'll see her mention how Dick twisted off the outer spurs on one of her boys leaving a smaller but bloody one in it's place. He did the same to one of my roos and he was fine in no time.

Anyway, it sounds like your school should set up a better and more secure way for unwanted poultry drop offs.

Since we've seen some roo pics here are a few young hen pics. They are from 2 weeks ago when I kicked some out into a temp pen for pictures. Now we have some snow and only one hen (named Psycho) would venture out,

These are bantam blue/black, plus some of my LF line crosses.

Silly girls, who won't come out in a little snow. They have no idea what it was like a year ago.
