I’m excited about my Naked Neck chicks!
They’re definitely not a breed everyone would like but there’s just something that appeals to me.
I have 6 straight run...hopefully I’ll get a few pullets out of the mix.
I got them at TS and chose them so each looks different from the others.

Aww. The chicks look sooo cute!

right now i am love with my salmon faverolles
I agree - love this breed but it is hard to find in WA state. Would love to breed/cross this somewhat timid (HENS) bird with Ameraucana ** or Easter Egger's for a smaller chicken. Rooster I once had was probably the best I ever had and he was courageous and totally protective. A quiet crow as well.
I am raising Cuckoo Maran, EE, OE Speckled Sussex.
I love a blue chicken so I would also consider
Sapphire Gems - Good egg layers developed in the Czech Republic - blue plumage but lay BROWN eggs.
They are available locally and I am thinking ... :)

Welsummers are also popular as are Barnvelders.
Going for colorful eggs and chickens this year!

** You might end up with a stable cross called a Favauacana- on the market.

The EE usually are buff but can be any color and I ended up with a Cuckoo pattern dark Rooster. Will see how that turns out.

Right now I’m LOVING my silkie girls. I also am totally in love with my blue Ameraucana hen....sweetest chicken out there! My barred rocks are good layers and have good sized eggs. Not a huge fan of my icelandic, she’s so flighty.
Day after tomorrow we are getting 6 day olds....a light Brahma, two EE’s, a BO, a BA, and a salmon faverolle.....all pullets.

Hi.
I was just wondering what the most popular chicken breeds are and also why..?

Thanks!

Depends on attributes you desire or your purpose for having chickens. I wanted eggs and Red sex links are great egg layers. Some want meat, and others want birds for show. Climate can influence choice as well. I live in central Texas where it gets really hot. So I also looked for breeds That can handle the heat. Bottom line, research the breeds and pick what suits your needs and can handle whatever climate you’re in.

thanks to everyone posting great photos, I want to learn more about different breeds and especially the rarer ones. I am furthering my education here.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with or interested in poultry. It’s got awesome photography and gives information about each breed history, standard, etc.
There’s also a great section explaining about different feather colors, patterns, etc.
It covers chickens, ducks, geese, swans, pea fowl and many others including emu, etc.
