Your experience is far greater than my own, but doesn't that chick seem sort of light in color for a DB? Particularly in the face??

It does, but they all vary greatly from a hatchery. We'll see how it matures, but I feel pretty confident.

I found a pic from back in May of 2020, shortly after I started my flock. There are two Dark Brahma in it, two Comets, and a CornishX butterball. The DB on top is the one I remember (its still with me), and why I thought the face markings weren't right.
The DB on bottom looks more like the bird OP pictured.

...and here are the DB the day after I bought them at TSC, which in my area of the country makes the Hoover Hatchery birds.
