Feather loss in recovering hen

When tucking the flock in on Dec 27th, I was shocked to find a hen with a horrible open wound on her breast. She has been seen by a veterinarian and her treatments are leading to a complete recovery. My question is, why would she be losing feathers? There are the fluffy under feathers and even some tail feathers. Is it normal after a trauma for this to happen?

Sometimes the stress of an injury can initiate a molt.

That's what I was hoping for because I hate to think of it being a sign of failing health or an infestation of mites. I treat her about a week ago.
