Feather loss?

Hello,

i have recently noticed that one of my hens have got a big clump of feather missing on her neck and chest. I have check for mites but non has been found.

I am worried for her and i am just hoping she may be just molting?

Please put my mind to rest, anyone know what this could be?

Hello!

Really check deeply against the skin for those mites or lice. Under the wings and around the vent are good areas. Those little buggers can be very hard to see. Lots of times, since a chicken can easily reach those feathers on their neck and chest, they will pull those out trying to get to the itchy critters......

Chickens really do molt at different times.....so it could be molting. Look at her skin....does it look OK, or is it red and irritated?
