February 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Darling chicks and what a good mama! 😍She looks just like my Polkie. Mine has never gone broody though!😊

That's because she's a Polkie too, lol! She less than a year old too. I was a bit nervous about the two hens that went broody because they were both young but she has been an amazing broody. She can sit on eggs anytime.

Just received a Text notification that my eggs have arrived at the local post office this morning ❤️

Little injured check was not doing too great this morning, so I made the tough decision to cull her. Difficult, but she could not eat on her own and her knee joint was exposed when we checked the bandage early this morning.😢
On a positive note I have 4 out of 9 hatched so far out of the Feb 8/Feb 9 hatch. Looks like two are DIS and the other 3 are still working on getting out of the shells.🙂
Aww I’m sorry about the little one :hugs

Right now I'm just disappointed that I didn't get the eggs on time and that the longer they are 'missing' the less likely they are to hatch, if they arrive in good enough physical shape to begin with ...

I don't know about y'all but every time I buy shipping eggs I go through the same struggles ... do or don't do, pros vs cons, ... i didn't pull the trigger on this purchase at a moments notice, I actually argued with myself and NO DON'T BUY had some seriously good points and valid arguments but DO BUY won out!

Arguing with yourself is hard work cause you have to represent 'reason' and 'want' equally well and wholeheartedly ... $75 for 3+ Eggs and $25 for shipping ...

The idea that I may now have to deal with the USPS to find some type of resolution is just annoying ... I am tired of being anxious, I don't like conflict or drama ... I just wanna watch eggs in my incubator grow and hatch and watch the peeps run around and make silly faces :hit

Okay fine, I admit it ... I cannot stand most people and their attitudes  I don't dislike all people, only the ones who act like their poo don't stink

Do you suppose the Sellers of shipped eggs suffer the same Anxieties and Nightmares as the Buyers?
My first & only shipped eggs so far 🤦‍♀️ thankfully I was home & got these before the wind blew them off.

ETA these are currently in the bator. I’ve pulled 3/12 & may have to pull 2 more. I’m keeping a close eye on them.

I dislike most people 🤣 I prefer my chickens for company 🤣🤣

I candled again yesterday (day 9). 8 look good, 4 look 'meh' , 8 are clear. There are 22 eggs in the incubator and I realized just a few moments ago that 8+8+4=20...not 22, so 2 are unaccounted for, lol. I did look at every one, I must have forgot to log all of them on my paper, aw well. I will candle again in a couple of days and take out all of the clears and make a determination on the 'meh's'.
So yeah, obviously my boys were too cold to do much except huddle together for warmth last month (in their defense it was -20F for most of January). I was in the coop yesterday for quite awhile setting up traps to try to catch a rat that moved in at some point this winter :barnie and my younger roo 'courted' 3 different hens in about 10 minutes. Apparently our rare February thaw had an effect on everyone's libido. My next hatch should be much better :)
