February 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
I'm late to posting but we're in lockdown tonight! Started with 8, and 7 made it to lockdown. All 7 were active when I candeled. This is my first hatch 😁
Ah!!! Right on schedule!

Silly question......
But in trying to help another hatcher out I just had a thought!
I tend to say 4 out of 4 eggs hatched if I went into lockdown with 4 eggs and 4 hatched!
But like this hatch I just did I realize I began with 7 eggs! Do yall count from that point as to your hatch rate?
Just don't want to mislead anyone or myself mainly LOLOL!

Hatch rate percentage is based on all eggs that started to develop.

Fertility percentage would be based on all eggs including unfertilized eggs.

So if you start with 7 and they're all fertilized but 3 quit and 4 hatch, then 4 out of 7 hatched. 57% hatch rate.

I'm so glad I thought to ask this question!!!

No worries! It happens! If only the 4 eggs were fertilized it's a 100% hatch rate but a 57% fertility rate. Does that make sense? It's based on how many of the developing eggs hatch.

Oh...ok so if 2 on day 7 were nothing but yolks (I was pretty sure they were all fertilized as I only had 2 hens and 1 roo but his favorite was giving him the shoulder a couple weeks...which is when he braved up and noticed her sister!)
So I removed those 2 at 7 days.
Then I had 5 going...by day 14 one more had stopped developing so I removed it and was left with 4.
So would you say 5 outta 7....or still count the full 7 in that case?
And thank u again for explaining this to me!
Never wanna mislead myself much less others!!!

If 2 never started to develop those are considered "clears" or "unfertilized". The 1 quitter is counted though, so 4 out of 5 fertilized eggs hatched. :)
