FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

DMSrabbit~ well, hate to break the news to you but your hens are either Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers... I'll tell you why I say this:
According to breed standards- Araucanas are rumpless(missing the last vertabrae) and have tufts, not muffs and or beard.
- Ameraucanas have a tail, and sport muffs and a beard, and have red ear lobes.
- easter eggers are chickens that do not conform to either of the breed standards above.

Hello everyone. Count me in too. I just bought some eggs today that will more than likely be shipped tomorrow and I am going next week to get 3 dozen black austrolorp eggs. This will be my first hatch of the year. I cant wait

So here's some of them, although i have gotten rid of most of Araucanas considering they are flighty/temperamental birds, and almost every farmer i have met or continue to meet tells me to get rid of em. They are apparently really hard to make happy.. Mine seem happy enough though..

Okay I'm sorry but how is it you call them all three Ameraucanas, Araucanas, and Easter Eggers?

All three are different breeds/types and have their own colors, body types, and unique charactersitics. I see a bunch of Easter Eggers.

Araucanas don't have tails or beards, Ameraucanas don't come in that color nor do they have green legs.

Still, pretty Easter Eggers. I myself have an EE hen that looks like those girls.

I'm hoping in the March hatch, I'll toss in a lot of Ameraucanas and Araucanas. I especially want to see my Buff Ameraucana pullet laying soon, and my Buff cockerel actually "in the mood."

Anyone else up for a Feb hatch? 'Tis only the beginning but there's always room for more chicks to be be born.

I wonder what Shamo x Marans chicks are gonna look like? Cool!

This is only an educated guess, but they should look a little like this hen, only much more meaty. This hen is a cross of Thai and Production Red. Thais are similar to but smaller than Shamos, Production Reds have a more similar body type to Marans, but are much skinnier and smaller.

Basically the more European/American type body of the Marans shortens the Shamo's long, upright body and muscles, making them appear larger, and all together making the chicken look more compact and stocky like a Cornish.

Eggs should get here today! Post office has them.

I should be set by this time tomorrow.

I hope they haven't frozen - its 7 degrees outside right now.

How cold can one of these eggs get & still be OK?

I think it depends on how fast you get them.

The thing that matters is how well they were packed and what the weather was like between you and your provider. I've had eggs shipped through cold February weather before and they turned out fine. My temps here never hit below 14 degrees though, and even anything below 33 is unusual.
