My 2 eggs due today hatched this morning a couple hours early. :) what a surprise to have this one in the incubator when I got home, when the other 4 have black copper patterned down! Any guesses on what color this might turn out to be? 🤔 (second pic showing the pattern on the others).

Did the little brown one hatch from a Marans egg?

That’s the weirdest part! None of these chicks are Marans. They hatched from these 2, Icelandic cockerel over Hedemora pullet:

The hedemora can definitely account for the black copper patterning, although they look different than Marans once feathered in. And Icelandics have lots of different colours and patterns. But this one has me stumped, because the other 4 are all the same, and then comes this one. lol. No other bird is laying right now, and even if they were, it would be a silkie. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I’m wondering if it’s going to be mottled like some icelandics are...

First out is a Pita Pinta/OE cross and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Similar markings to a Pita, but it looks like the darker fluff is actually grey instead of black like pure Pitas.

Just have to say, I want Hedemoras SO BAD! So jealous seeing this cutie here. I tried to get some this year but shipped from across Canada in these temps it was detached air cells and no development :'(

Also to add locked down my second batch today. Found one with an interesting air pocket in it. Could the chick just be getting into position ?!
