Two external pips. One in the right place and one backwards, upside down and outside the air cell! Made the hole a little bigger and made sure the chick can breathe. I hear it chirping. This one may need a full assist. I’m going to keep a close eye on it. Won’t be the first time!😊

I've saved a few chicks before, I just have to be careful that the viens dont still have blood in them or I could kill them by assisting 😬

Yes, have to be careful and patient. It will be several hours before I do anything more as long as I can see that the little one is still breathing. Looks like it did not get turned around well enough. It is a smaller bantam egg. I can here it chirping, so must be getting some air. 😊

Yesterday I announced to my family, "I'm collecting eggs to hatch!" And the reply was, "isn't it too early for chicks?" Along with a couple eyerolls.

Anyways, I have a few silkie eggs, a couple bantam-orp silkie eggs, and a couple mystery ones from my flock. The only dad is a silkie roo. Also a few from the past week with no dates or breed ID written on them. This is so fun!
I need silkies in my life!

Very cute.

Day 15. I was going to wait until day 18 to candle. (candled day 5, day 11, and just today day 15.) I wanted to take them out of their resting cups and lay on their sides. I candled the top (aircell end) and the tip (fluids end) by day 16 the pointy end should not show light. (If light shows they may be a day or so behind.) They are looking good, veiny, but I had to pull one of my Isbar eggs because it quit. Boo. 17 eggs left.

My hatch is complete! 100% hatch rate, 100% fertility rate. Super vigorous chicks, too. This one hatched about 1.5 hours before taking the pic. Lol. Looks like it’s mama, besides the bib. 🥰 any pullets I get out of this group will be part of my breeding program and going in with one of my 2 pure hedemora cockerels, when grown.
