February Hatch-A-Long

My first one is out at 7:30am and 4 more pipped, 1 of 4 is zipping

This one hatched at 9:30am

Day 7 on the shipped silkie eggs. 4/10 are developing nicely, despite their wonky air cells. Rest have no signs of development, either clears or too scrambled to do anything. Tossed.
Current hatch, have 4 silkie chicks in the incubator, 1 pipping, 1 appears to be DIS before internally pipping.
The remaining 6 are due to hatch over the next week.
I did end up having to assist the one malpositioned chick. Will need to tape it's feet, as they are quite curled, but it seems to be doing well otherwise.

My hatch is complete! 100% hatch rate, 100% fertility rate. Super vigorous chicks, too. This one hatched about 1.5 hours before taking the pic. Lol. Looks like it’s mama, besides the bib. any pullets I get out of this group will be part of my breeding program and going in with one of my 2 pure hedemora cockerels, when grown.View attachment 2528232

Definitely wasn’t expecting it but hopeful. Haha. These were the first eggs from my own birds, specifically from my favorite pullet, so the smallest egg was a little tricky but still managed to hatch on its own. She started out laying pretty normal sized eggs, no tiny pullet eggs here. Haha.

Hatching your own eggs is always the way to go! Mine usually have no issues at all and I've had a number of 100% hatched and 100% fertile hatches

I agree with offshoreorca, last year my hatch rates where great 98%. My son sold almost all my chicks, but 6 that I hide lol

Going on day 16 today, I could tell they are starting to make their own heat. I am keeping an eye on the inner thermometer so the heat will not spike.

My lone day 18 egg is in lockdown in my second incubator now!


I had a blood ring in one of the three day 11 eggs, but the other two are going strong, and I'm starting to see veins in the day 4 eggs now. Let's go babies!!

Baby Pictures!! These guys were my February 4th hatch already getting big. Inside until the temps get back above zero over the night.
