My lonely only over the past 24 hours :love I have way too many pictures of her already, if y'all couldn't tell. :p Her next due siblings are on day 15 and going strong, so hopefully she won't be lonely for too much longer :fl

POWER OUT!!
the power went out! It’s going to be out for a few hours. I have one pipping currently! I covered both incubators with blankets but I don’t want them to suffocate either. Incubating also day 12 eggs shipped that are doing quite well. I am heating on our barbecue we don’t have any hot water bottles any ideas? Should I take the pipped chick out and put in a bowl with some steamy towel and cover it? I don’t want to panic but I feel like I’m getting close!

OK power came back on hopefully not just temporarily. Filled up every single thermos container we have in the house with hot water in case it goes out again. Here I am in Hawaii worried about the power going out with the whole Midwest and most of the rest of the mainland is having power issues never mind the whole state of Texas!

It’s out again here too. Rotten weather. My hat’s off to all the power co guys!

It's just a little stick under the skin in the back of the neck. Once you get the hang of it, it is pretty quick. I think wing web vaccinating is worse.
Most hobby/backyard breeders like myself do not even offer Mareks here as it is crazy expensive to ship it here. I try to figure how much I will need and order several bottles at once, so I cut down on the shipping price buying in volume. I ask the company sending it to try to send me bottles with the latest expiration date, so it may last well into the next hatching season. Try to have enough chicks hatch around the same time to make it worth it. 😊
Yeah the expense is a big issue for me. I don't get near 1000 chicks even in 5 years so using it all in one season would be impossible. For larger breeders who hatch much more they don't have a problem. Also my adult flock is not vaccinated so I have concerns about making them sick if I introduce vaccinated babies to their coop by keeping any that I have vaccinated.

I am a big softy and always feel horrible if I have to do anything mean to them lol. I'm sure eventually they will make us vaccinate all birds if it keeps spreading. It definitely is getting more prevalent in the area. Lots of people automatically assume they have it when their chicks get sick rather than testing their birds to be sure because even the testing is expensive.
