pip on my second batch hatch from my hens. This egg is from a partridge maran. (mix) The Rooster on this I am hoping RIR (whom I don't have any more.) I am hoping for a red chick since I don't have any red chickens currently.

This hatch is staggered so I won't get more for a bit. There were 5 total... first tan one didn't make it to a lock down, second tan one was a LO mix chick hatched, this egg third, looks like one more tan is going to quit, has not yet, and one last egg tan has another 5 days or so to go.

Last Serama hatched last night (it was put in a few days behind the rest) and is out with its mama now. My broody had another egg that I checked yesterday and was alive, but she left the nest today so I brought the egg inside and I think it’s gone, which is fine... I have too many chicks than I know what to do with now haha.
Overall, of the 16 that made it to lockdown one shipped egg didn’t hatch and 2 seramas died (one after pipping & one was too malpositioned to pip). Pretty happy with the results :)
Now to clean a STINKY incubator!

Congratulations on your hatch! That photo is just darling! 🥰

Question for you experienced hatchers:
I have these 4 shipped eggs that had horrible aircells going into lock down tomorrow. I SO want them to hatch, so of course second quessing myself on my methods. They have been incubating upright in cut down cartons. 3 of the 4 are saddled but no longer have loose aircells. Nice firm edges all the way around the aircell. One still has about 1/4 of the edge still loose and liquidy. All 4 chicks look great and are developing nicely. I was planning to have them hatch upright as well, but now wondering if they should be laid on there sides, the 3 of them anyway. Will continue with the 4th one upright.
What do you all do and why?
Thanks!😊

I know I’m no experienced Hatcher but I’ll give input and ask a question.
Input; I’ve read others who hatched with air cell up. Just like sitting in a carton. with good results. I guess that depends on the definition of ‘good’. Sorry o don’t have more.

My question; did you have them incubating fat end up the whole time? Are they straight up like, or leaned to a side?

Thought I welcome input.
with this next batch of eggs I’m tempted to have them sitting in cartons where the bottom third is cut off. Then maybe tilt them side to side and let them hatch in the cartons also. Was wandering what you all thought.
