Today is Day 7. I purged all of my own eggs. I hoped at least a few would be fertile. Sadly not a 1 was. Oh well. I'm sure my young rooster will catch on soon enough as spring nears. I'm leaving in 4 blank eggs I had weights on. To help with averaging overall weight loss.

On a happy note all 12 hatching eggs I bought locally are developing perfectly. Hoping for a great hatch from them. I'll definitely use that selling again.

Probably not pure white, like a Leghorn. Maybe a cream or white with red leakage. With those parents I'd expect it to be a fantastic layer if it's a hen :)

I can post a pic of some of my EE mixes that hatched that color, white, and turned cream as they matured. If you're interested.

Ugh, came home from grocery shopping and my automatic egg turner had somehow derailed from the motor. I am not sure how jostled the eggs got, no cracks, I only candled 1, it was still very active. Today is day 12, I really hope I don't wake up to 8 dead eggs on day 13!

I thought I joined this HAL but I don't see my post so I'm in now.

I have 17 three week old chicks inside :barnie
and buildings are pretty full. I need to rebuild a building that isn't mink proof but we're in the midst of our longest deep freeze in 4 years.
My next setting will be January 27 or 28 for the February HAL and hatching by the waxing moon in Pisces.
Hopefully I can get my homemade cabinet refurbished and put the LG on standby.
I am on the same schedule with 5 eggs set inadvertently to hatch on Pisces moon. Lucked out there. My DD and I looked it up in Almanac after we had set them! yay!. one leaked some egg white(?) must've had a hairline crack we didn't see? Anyway we had to carefully transfer the other eggs and tried to remove it from the turner but it broke in the process. only a tiny piece of shell chipped off. I thought about trying to glue or wax it, but the membrane was torn a bit. The silver lining is the egg was definitely fertile. so now down to 4 tiny silkie eggs we had shipped off of ebay.
I think we will try to do a staggered hatch as we have some coming this week. might try for the Cancer waxing days on those? Have you been using the lunar days for awhile to set?

I have been doing it for a while but for most of that time my incubators haven't been reliable enough to get a good read on lunar hatching vs. random dates. I should be able to get a better feel this year.
My last hatch was 100% in a crappy LG incubator which was a surprise.
I use this website to get hatch dates based on the moon.

You can enter your location on the black bar near the top.
If you get another cracked egg I've found the best thing to use is liquid bandage.
I've tried beeswax and fingernail polish but neither were successful. I dropped an egg and a good 60% of the shell was shattered but the membrane was intact. I coated it with the liquid bandage and the chick hatched just fine.
I've heard people had success with superglue but the liquid bandage is antiseptic so may help with inhibiting bacteria.

I'm having a lot of trouble keeping my hovabator's temp and the humidity at the correct setting. It is in my bedroom, and we rarely use the heat in the house so it is around 58 degrees in my room. We use a fireplace in the living room. So why is it fluctuating so much? Does the temp rise when the humidity goes down? I'm getting some hatchery Brahmas shipped Feb. 20th, and I really want more than 2 to hatch. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a hovabator 1602n and mine is in my bedroom. It keeps a very consistent temp during the day, when not a lot of activity is going on, but in the evening, with making dinner and such, I usually have to do a quick uptick on temp with the incubator around 5:30 and then back down around 10:30. We have forced air and have the house set at 69*. The house thermostat is not too far from the kitchen, so I think the furnace doesn't run when the oven/stovetop is in use because that area of the house is warmer. Maybe the temp in your room doesn't stay as consistent as 58? My normal fluctuation of temp when the heating element in the incubator cycles is around 99-100.5 ish
