february hatch along

She is so cute!! How is she doing today? Congrats on the hatch...great results!!

Thanks for checking in. She's doing great. Her wound didn't need any doctoring today. Looks much improved. She got moved in with the others this morning. Holding her own well. I'll won't feel she's completely out of the woods for a couple more days when the greatest chance of infection
has passed. But so far it's been a perfect recovery.

That is great news! I'm so happy to hear that she is improving!

It is day 13 yay can’t wait to candle does it make a difference if I candle to day or tomorrow tomorrow is day 14 can I candle today and see the same results

day 10...
13 set... 2 pulled, one not fertile and one blood ring. 11 moving forward, all olive eggers.

I'm hatching Olive Eggers too! Are they from your flock or did you buy eggs locally or shipped? I set 10 (8 of them are OE's)...one looks like it isn't fertile, I'll check it again on Monday. All of the others are fertile and growing! Good luck on your hatch!

There all from my flock. I have a Cuckoo Maran Rooster over two olive eggers (Crested Cream Legbar/Welbar - dark olive eggs) and one Crested Cream Legbar (blue eggs).

Good luck on your hatch too

I candle on days 7, 15 and at lockdown. I candle to observer my air cells mostly. Two days can make a difference in the chicks development. On day 13 - Toenails and leg scales form. Day 14-the embryo turns toward the blunt end of the egg and down feathers cover the body. Day 15-down increases. While all of this is happening, your humidity is affecting your air cells. I prefer not to disturb my eggs and have a chance of dropping/damaging them from excess handling. I also find that I can maintain my temp and humidity by not opening the incubator to candle. I made this so that I could add water without opening the incubator.

I placed a 2 inch x 2 inch new sponge under the turner directly under the hole in the top of the incubator (it does not affect the turning action). Long story to say, I prefer the hands off method of incubating. Others candle everyday or every few days. Its a personal preference. :)

How exciting! Did you buy them for the color or for breeding to standard or both or just because you love Marans? ;)

Possible new breed for me? If I can get hubby to build my addition. :D

A friend gave me a few eggs last year (we traded, actually). 4 were Marans eggs. Only 2 hatched, turned out to be one male, one female. I rehomed the male, but kept the female. She finally started laying gorgeous eggs in December, and she was so beautiful! A hawk stole her from me yesterday. :he :barnie :hit So I thought I'd try again with them.
