Feeding pigeons when and how much?

Thank you mary :) they dont seem to be eating the grit (oyster shell) so il mix it in with the food. I wouldve thought it might have to be mixed with water?

Most game cock feed actually is, or is same as: crushed dog food and scratch feed. maybe with layer, and wild bird seed. Why i just mix my own, as asked sellers and called companies. a good scratch blend, or more natural whole grain and seed mix is containing: peas, saflower, sunflower, nuts, milo, millet, wheat, oats, corn, and probly other that i cannot think of and are not in this kind i have. it was ten dollars for twenty five pounds of chicken scratch grain.

Commercial caged budgie/"parakeet" grit, and feed, wild bird seed, crushed dry dog food, and even layer pellets, are a lot quicker and easier to get, especially for busy city kids, i assume, as all these grains were hard heavy and darn near impossible to get in city in not huge amounts to have to try to lug home without car and store. as most of these grains and seeds are hard to all find decently, and buying big bags to store and mix from of each is what most pro keepers were recomending when i read up and asked them when started out.

Where did you get it or what is it called? Some go in water, some don't. The pink mineral powder I've seen, made by the australian pigeon company, goes on the feed, grit, or in a separate pot and supposedly they eat it as is. My pigeon grit comes with a red powder on it already :)

It has no label on it , i got it from my local pet shop. I will jus spread it on the feed then thank you for your help :)

I forgot you can use rinsed dried crushed egg shells, as do this for chickens and pigeons love it and haven't gotten sick so far over years. if they're not eating the grit by itself, they may not be getting what they need from it, or could poison or compact, forcing them to eat with feed, so maybe try something else. Feeding commercial pelllets/crumbles/mash, companies say not to add grit or added vits ect, as can cause problems. mine when not on straight layer, will peck at red bricks, mineral rock, sand, red clay earth, and swallow stones. I've never had a mysterious death due to possible poisoning or impacting (once from a young roller cock free flier feeding first newly hatched chick his white down feathers, and homer hen that brooded so tight she was smothering and over heating her eggs and chicks).

I Live in Sandsky Ohio. My children found an abondoned baby pigeon,( they thought was a duck yea right) he doesnt want to be outside he wants to live inside I have no idea what to feed him we were feeding him wet cat food/dog food frozen peas oatmeal. He still wants to eat outta my hand and will not stay outside. Dont know if its a male or female ,and if he gets mad he "hits us with his wing" he cries constantly. He or she wants to be held all the time
Is he crying cuz hes hungry or wants attention?

Grit and oyster shell are two completely different things, intended for different uses. Grit is used in the gizzard to crush hard food before it enters the stomach. Oyster shell is a calcium supplement for egg shell development. If the bird is not laying, DO NOT give it oyster shell or you risk destroying it's liver.

@RACHEL L. Can you post a pic to get a better idea of it's age? Thawed froz peas and the oatmeal are ok - drop out the cat & dog food as pigeons are vegetarian. Will it eat a wild bird seed mix on it's own? Water must be given in a container deep enough for it to submerge most of the beak.
