Feeding Wild Birds

Hearing some Toms coming off the roost in the back of the property, 6 hen birds strolled by the chickens and scratching under the bird feeder. Hopefully will see some puffing and strutting soon. Numbers have been down the past couple of yrs from 20+ to maybe a half dozen, want to see some poults. Yotes have been brutal on birds and deer.

Saw the turkeys coming from across the road through the hay field. They haven' visited in a while. I quickly got some feed and spread it where they eat. As they approached closer, I noticed that they were led by 3 large toms who seemed to be on high alert. "My' turkeys for sure as the bearded hen was with them. They crossed the front lawn, entered the brushy area to the East and never went to eat. About a minute later 3 more large toms appeared following the flock. Guess it's 'that' time of year.

Definitely that time of year. The Red-winged Blackbirds were in full chorus this morning but no females to impress.
