I posted this in another thread, so I'm just quoting it here. I believe this is the breed of the pair we are seeing today.Looking at the breeds of ducks that frequent Washington and have their young in this area, DH and I think this is the one. It is the Bufflehead. This female looks black and white, and it may be shadows on the river, but she seems more brown to us.
