Female Pekin

Shoot...... what luck you have. I know you were hoping for more than one female.

You once she starts laying I would wait 2 months. They don’t lay quality eggs that are big enough right at first. Even if they are fertile, they end up dying before hatching. How’s your fella with the limp?
That was her with the limp! Lol.. She's doing great, but she has a lot of problems with my Rouen. He's crazy. Lol. I want to find her a lady friend!

Not sure if I can post this question here but this is the most recent pekin thread I could find...
Does anyone know if this 2 year old pekin is a jumbo? She was for breeding and is larger than what I thought she was going to be. Or is she just larger and needs a little exercise? Also, she seems like her wing feathers are missing feathers at the and of them and the beginning of them. I asked the previous owner why and he said maybe because the female to male ratio was off and she had it a little rough. Anyone have any ideas and how/if we can get them to grow back?

I don’t know for sure, but I have smaller Pekins than yours and some your Pekins size. I personally think that size is more indicative of a jumbo. And my jumbos do seem to have more leg problems than the regular ones. She doesn’t need exercise. You were right, she’s just made that way. And as for the feathers, I’d say she is molting and will get brand new feathers in shortly. Do you see white feathers on the ground?

Shoot I was hoping she wasn't a jumbo but she's a beauty either way! I have only seen a few but I've only had her for 2 days. She spends a lot of time by the water grooming herself also so hopefully just molting! Thank you for the reply!

As long as you are feeding her well and letting her play in the water now and again, she will be beaming in no time!

She has been very shy most of the time the last two days except when my red chicken is with her. All my birds cohabitate really well even with new ones coming in normally but for some reason my red chicken is not happy with her being here and that's wierd because she was a transplant and never has been aggressive. I don't know if it's because of her size or what but they keep going after each other. It looks like the chicken stalks her some times. My bigger duck also keeps getting into it with her. She runs away from my small ducks and my black chicken who is older but for some reason keeps getting into tiffs with my biggest duck and my one chicken. Hopefully they settle in soon! We also got little Harlow here! Ps Harlow loves people!
