Fence height

Our chicken area is secure, the chickens don't get out (I put a net over it).
However, the neighbours also have chickens, they fly over the 5 foot wall I made and get eaten by my dogs. According to local by laws, I have to pay a fine, which I find most unfair.
Anyway, I am going to build a fence on top of the wall, no expectation of the beloved neighbour building one, to stop this. He likes to see me losing money.
How high? Eight feet enough. or should I go higher while I am at it?
Thanks.
Maybe research those local laws.. If they fly into your property you should not be held liable.. There are lawyers that give free consultations (before you spend more money, just saying..)

I don't see how you can be fined for your dogs killing chickens in your yard, on your property, behind a fence. That just doesn't make sense to me. I'd dispose of the evidence and say "What chicken? Aint seen any of YOUR chickens in MY yard in ages..."

Next time, tell the law that you witnessed the neighbor throwing the chicken over the fence and it was already dead. Your dog just did what any dog would do when provided a ready made meal.

I'd use glow in the dark plastic fencing like the deer net fencing you see folks use around gardens and such.

I would really look into that "law", it's not right. It's your yard & the chickens are trespassing, your dog is protecting your property! There's "bird netting" although it's only in black, sizable and reasonable. When the chickens get caught in it, wrap them up & toss them over the fence, that'll keep your neighbor busy trying to untangle them.

Sine you can’t control the breed or size of his birds, I’d think you’d need to go taller. 7 ft min from the ground or from your existing wall depending on if they could “stairstep” off the wall. My first batch of chickens could fly onto my 7 ft privacy fence. Ever since then I’ve gotten heavier birds or clipped wings

I hate crazy laws. I say they need to solve the problem. How is it your responsibility to keep their chickens in their yard. THEIR chickens are in YOUR property. Look into that law please. May not need a lawyer. But if you need to do something maybe electric line. Chickens can get high up if they want. When mine are free ranging they get on top of their run. 7 1/2 ft

My neighbors chickens fly over my 6' fence, and I just net them and trim there wings and toss them back over the fence. I try to keep my flock from visiting strange birds for their own health and welfare.
