I ferment feed for my chickens. They're spoiled and basically won't eat if I don't give them their "slop" every morning

I recently picked up this handy galvanized trough feeder that hangs on the side of the coop and started to use it for the slop (ferment)...but then when I shared it in a chicken group I was told the fermented feed will react with the galvanized metal. What is it that reacts? Can I not use galvanized metal for wet food? Just disappointed I can't possibly use this feeder as intended!
