Don't ya love it when folks finally, finally GET you?

I got an electric knife sharpener...and son didn't even know my manual had quit on me! Miracles! Especially when we had told them to not get us any presents at all.

We also got a huge supply of flashlights from two different sources(BFF and Son Three)...great for tracking deer, checking on chickens when you don't want to disturb them by turning on the overhead light, and also wonderful for when the power goes out here...which it does quite often. And last, but not least...an absolutely wonderful box of expensive chocolates from a brother.

The best gift of all? Love in abundance, from God on down through the family. Love, precious love!

Thing One and Thing Two have gone out for a last day of hunting, it's a beautiful, peaceful day and I don't have to cook a thing! Life is GOOD.

Well! People actually GOT it this year! In the past people have given me a lot of "stuff". You know what I mean... Just. Stuff. Like electric toothbrush sanitizers and purple Santa light up lawn ornaments... Solar powered bobbleheads and a banana hook... Stuff that sits in the house desperately waiting for a regifting or for it to be old enough to get rid of wihtout offending... Not this year!

I got some incredible things... Some I didnt even ask for but love. I received a 48 gallon rain barrel, a really nice one with a hose gasket on it. I received a set of gardening tools including two trowels, an aerator, a small cultivator, two sizes of small pruning shears and a nice tote to put it all in.

I got my first real dose of chicken math. You see before this month our animal ownership has been strict and practical in regards to non pets. Then I brought home ten free chickens. Now my sister is going to help me get some Easter eggers or ameracaunas to add to my flock. I know this because of a hillarious thicken dog toy with a note around it. My dogs have been chewing on it in all manner of shameful ways and flipping it about and it is fantastic. So of COURSE I need to add another chicken or two to the flock! It is an Xmas present!

And my beau got me a Brinsea Mini incubator! So now I need hatching eggs to try it out! (Anyone got any cool eggs they wanna send me?

) Which of course means I end up with even more chickens... What is a girl to do? I *have* to get these chickens!

I also got some nice kitchen stuff, an egg skelter (desperately needed) a new set of cutting boards... And new knives! Great for skimming Anne deboning these chickens!

Wow, it sounds like you scored big time this year! My problem is that most of the things I get around not practical, much like the ones you mentioned.

Check the Aloha Chickens thread. There are at least two of them that have a large amount of excess eggs they might be willing to let you hatch. The catch is that any that meet their breeding program's requirements at about four-months old would go back to them. As far as I know, that's only about one-in-ten, so you have an excellent chance of keeping them! You might make a posting in the Chicken Hatching Eggs thread. Maybe someone else has a surplus of a rare or special breed they are trying to save. We have a local person trying to save the Golden Campine and she had extras a few weeks ago. Check your local Craig's List for similar situations.

Blessed are the women who have husbands that cook, particularly this time of year. :D Having a very Merry Christmas up here in Canada. :) We'll be travelling Friday, 2 1/2 hours one way, to donate a breeding trio to a lovely lady who lost her whole flock of over 100 chickens last month. I felt her pain & just wanted to help, in whatever way I could.

Nice to hear of thoughtful gifts for everyone. :)
Hope everybody gets over that nasty bug soon, Rose. :)

I just want to wish everyone on here a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year before it is too late to do so. So happy, happy, happy everyone! May your new year be better than the last and full of enough bubbly for all! God Bless You Everyone! :) beverly

Just wanted to share on of my Christmas presents from my Mom. It's my George replacement. I couldn't keep my Roo due to local laws so she got me a rooster I could have :) . The candle inside is fake and on a timer so he even turns on and off on his own :D

Well, Christmas morning was good. Christmas afternoon The Hawk came back. I am now applying for a permit to legally remove the hawk that killed two of my egg layers today. In particular, the second of my original golden girls is now in my fridge. RIP nugget. Next time that hawk comes back my dog is coming out with me. After all, it is her job to see off predators... And if a wild animal happens into my back yard while my dog is there or vice versa, well... Both dog and bird move too fast for me to catch em anyhow.

There was a hawk visiting my place today. He got my attention because some of these guys had him squawking. There were about six of these turkey vultures hanging around. I have never seen them perch in the yard before. I think these two and another one are youngsters. It won't let me upload the video. Cool birds, LOVE to watch them float around!

A couple of days ago, four or five crows came squawking overhead. When I looked up, they were surrounding a hawk, and chasing it off. Hubby says they will do that......I guess crows aren't a bad thing after all.
