Ok so I made a homemade incubator and I was wondering what watt light bulb is good to maintain the right temperature?

I use a 25 watt bulb in mine with a LOWER thermostat from a water heater. so far it is working for me butt his is the first hatch with the new thermostat in. MY temp is going form around 96 to 103 or so. that is good for me since before this I had 94 to 110 and still have good hatch rates.

Hi everyone! I would like to join in on the hatch a long if I can. I set mine on Friday the 3rd. 26 total, a mix of Orpingtons- Lavendar, Buffs and BBS... This will be my second hatch. The last hatch I had were shipped eggs... 12 BBSO's... 4 were not fertile. The other 8 hatched, were doing great. One died at a week old. I am guessing that maybe there was just something wrong with it from birth, I don't know. I was sad as it was my first time hatching, but I know it will happen.

Anyways, wish everyone a good 21 days of waiting and a successful hatch!

Welcome aboard! I'm almost halfway through day 5, and so far, I believe all 26 eggs are a go! The coop we are building will comfortably hold 12 chickens. I figured, set 26 eggs, and if I got half to hatch I'd be happy. I really didn't expect them all to start developing, as 21 of these eggs are shipped eggs. I guess if too many do hatch, I know a few local people who would take them.

I set 15 eggs on the 4th --- a mix of buff Orps and Black Australorps, one RIR and a mystery egg. Thisi is my second hatch. My first I had only two BC Marans out of 13 mixed Marans, Buff Orps and Aussies, that hatched. I am lowering ghg ehumidity this time. I have a Hovabator with turner & fan and read a wise one on here who said they tend to be too humid. I am in Delaware, and it had been hot & humid during the hatch. When we opened the eggs after day 24 we found four formed poults who must have drowned, we think. I also had to move them right after we had gone into lockdown, because it occured to me that once they hatched, the noise would attract my kitten! The poor eggs rolled around quite a bit during their move into a room with a door.

Anyway, I will be more careful this time!
