. I've taken quite a few pictures, it's fascinating.
Here's another good one.

Edited to include that when I first saw the veins I actually let out a scream I was so excited

LOL..I remember getting that excited when I first saw veins in my first hatch. Then, there was the black dot. Then there was big movement, then, there was the first time I saw a foot! And finally, just a couple of hatches ago, I saw a heart beat. I had heard of a lot of people seeing that, but I hadn't in a lot of hatches. It was pretty exciting. I had to run and tell DH.

That will be exciting! I think these chicks are tougher than they are given credit for as my temperature tends to get pretty hot at night, up to 107. I have a hard time keeping it at about 100-101, yet more eggs have veins this morning.

What kind of thermometer do you use?
Are you using a dry bator..not forced air? 107 does sound high..if you are using the thermometor that came with the bator, they usually aren't very correct. You can go to walmart and get a digital one, that reads both the temp and humidity..they are pretty nice. I got the one that is on the large side, a black one, but it keeps everything pretty close..doesn't have the point mark, but if I see it close to where I want it..99, or 100 in my air bator, then I'm good. I can usually tell if my eggs feel really too warm by the touch. I've hatched so many now.

I have a infrared heat gun that is very accurate, and I point in on the top of the eggs.
I have my humidity at about 30-35 (calibrated hygrometer) and it is a still air. Last night went alright, when I went to bed it was at 100, I had all the holes opened (8) and had it cracked open, and a humifier (blasts cold air) right next to it and when I checked it this morning it was around 102-103

. I'm going to put a few more holes in it today.
It really doesn't help that my house is heated via wood stove so the temperature fluctuates when it burns down or gets wood added.

You can see veins all the way up to lock down day if you have light eggs. Even with a flash light. If your eggs are dark, then it's hard even during the end of the first week with a good candler. But what you will see more of as the baby grows, is a dark shadow, and hopefully that shadow moving. And, you may get lucky and see a foot stick down away from it's body, do a little leg and toe show for you, pretty cute. That can happen during the second week.
