Sounds like she's ready- open those boxes!

Is there any other reason why she would be crying like that?

I've noticed mine get really vocal right before they are going to lay. I've never had that kind of squawk for any other reason. Chickens have lots of different vocalizations.

Congrats on the green egg! Your leghorn should be starting up soon, maybe she's a bit of a slow maturer. I've had them in lots of different breeds.

I got something today.....................not an egg, but it involves an egg............................

Babies from my broody! So far a wellie (looks like a boy) and 2 olive eggers (2nd generation). I was hoping for a splash chick, now

Grats Chickinlickin8!

Omg Happy Chooks they're sooooooooo adorable!!!

And I forget who asked about their chicken making a racket before laying, but I suspect the hen's just causing a ruckus because it's close to her egg-time. Some breeds make more of a racket than others. My Gold Comets actually made a racket a couple of days before their first egg, and now lay silently. heehee silly chickens.

Happy Chooks - they are so cute! You also must have a patient broody or a good relationship with her - last time I had a broody, I wouldn't have put my hand anywhere near her without VERY thick leather gloves!

18 weeks, no eggs

(we need a smilie of drumming fingers...)
combs and waddles are getting gradually bigger and redder on the Gold Stars, SS are still pale pink, Delawares are in between, EE has NO comb - just a flat spot that gives her that "hawk" look. Still think that Kindness (one of my Gold Stars) will be first. I'm WAITING.... I should probably break down and go buy eggs...

I have 2 Gold Stars, 2 Delawares, 2 Speckled Sussex, and one EE <--

Congratulations! So cute! I hope someday one of mine will be broody.

We did get our first little egg today from one of our Golden Comets who will be 16 weeks old in two days.

Thanks everyone. She's a good broody, she pecks but not hard. She's fine with me lifting her to have a peek, but doesn't like me picking them up. 4th chick is zipping now.

I absolutely love hatching under broodies. It's so easy, the mama hen does it all!

And it's a good thing I have 2 coops, cuz I'm not getting ANY eggs from my first coop. I moved 3 welsummer pullets in there for breeding and they are on strike. Not a single egg from that coop today.

sdeneen............does this one work for you?

although I like this one better.

Your EE has a pea comb, so it won't look big like the others. But when she's ready to lay, the skin around her eyes and beak will get red.
