First Egg Countdown

Pics
It confuses me the people that think seeing a chicken lay an egg as gross. Where do they think the grocery store eggs come from, the magic egg fairy?

My neighbor is the same, she won't eat my eggs because she says they come out of a chickens butt. I told her so do the ones from the grocery store.

Here are some pictures of my girls. (they are all 18 weeks old)
The first one is Scramble an Australorp. Her comb and wattles are really red, she is SO LOUD, and when I went to pick her up today, she seemed heavier then normal.

1st post here, I can't hardly wait...My flock is 14 weeks old as far as I can guesstimate. All pure-stock barnevelders. .six hens 1 rooster....I know I still have a way to go before I get eggs, but am happy for those that relish the joy and excitement from all the hard work ( and money) and are reaping the benefit of the long wait to do so......hopefully soon, I will join the ranks of having chickens that actually earn their keep......can't wait to get my first $2,00 egg !......

Our 24 Barred Rock 'ladies' will be 16 weeks old this Wednesday, July 13th. We are getting ready to set up the
laying boxes in thier coop and start watching for 'egg laying' behaviors and such. I haven't figured out how to
post photos within the text of a post - can anyone tell me how to do that?

I want eggs!!

There, i said it. After all,I raised two separate groups of chicks, I monitered the temperature, I changed water, I cleaned paper towel, then sawdust, I bought chick starter, I researched food, and bought organic crumble, I spent time online making sure I was doing it all "right" I built a coop (well, i helped...), every morning I herd them from their coop & small run into their huge day run - and at night back again, I feed them home grown treats from the garden, I hosed down the run to keep them cool, I hang out and take with them at times during the day..............really, is it asking too much for them start contributing - all I ask is they lay eggs.

My older girls are 17 weeks old, one Delaware & three red-sex links (RIR X Delaware). The combs etc have definitely grown, reddened, but, no squatting (don't touch me!). They have investigated the nesting boxes, but, I don't see anyone spending any lengthy amount of time in there (doesn't mean they aren't though).

Any thoughts on how much longer I will wait - or, who will be first?

Any comments appreciated.

I caught one of my girls sitting in a nest box this afternoon...YAY! She was moving hay around and looking at the ceramic egg under her. They are 18 and half weeks now and starting to squat. Can't wait for my first egg!
